Veterinary Specialty Regional Medical Director

Position Type: Full-Time
Location: Regional / Multi-State Territory
Travel Requirement: Extensive regional travel required (50-75%)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, collaborative, and visionary veterinary specialist or emergency doctor to join our leadership team as a Regional Medical Director. This role provides strategic medical leadership and mentorship across a network of specialty and emergency hospitals within an assigned region.

The ideal candidate is a board-certified veterinary specialist or highly experienced emergency veterinarian with a passion for clinical excellence, doctor development, and advancing specialty medicine standards across multiple hospitals. This position combines medical leadership, mentorship, operational partnership, and relationship building, with regular travel to hospitals throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide medical leadership and oversight for specialty and emergency hospitals across the region
  • Partner with hospital leadership teams to support high-quality patient care and clinical excellence
  • Mentor and coach specialists, emergency clinicians and interns
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, retention, and professional development of veterinarians
  • Drive consistency in medical protocols, quality standards, and best practices
  • Collaborate with operations leadership on strategic growth initiatives and hospital performance
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable culture across hospitals
  • Serve as a clinical resource for complex case discussions and medical decision-making
  • Support continuing education initiatives and advancement of specialty and emergency services
  • Travel regularly throughout the assigned territory to provide on-site leadership and support

Qualifications
  • DVM or VMD degree from an accredited veterinary school
  • Board certification preferred, Experienced emergency veterinarian, Completion of an Internship
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience
  • Prior leadership, mentorship, or medical director experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, collaboration, and team development
  • Ability to lead across multiple hospitals and build strong relationships with clinicians and staff
  • Multi-state licensure or ability to obtain licensure in assigned region preferred
  • Comfortable with frequent travel and overnight stays as needed
