NATURE OF POSITIONThe Vehicle Telematics Administrator plays a vital role in analyzing and overseeing telematic data to enhance the safe operation of public transit vehicles. This position focuses on onboard safety monitoring and telematics systems, leveraging data insights to recommend training programs and operational improvements that promote both safety and efficiency.
In coordination with the Safety and Training Department, the role also assists with regular refresher training, including newly developed and updated programs tailored to emerging trends in telematics data. These ongoing training efforts ensure operators maintain best practices in vehicle safety, compliance, and service quality.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities/KSAESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Monitor and review onboard safety monitoring system event data, ensuring video capture integrity and data uploads.
- Continuously track, analyze, and report telematic data from Fixed Route buses, Paratransit vehicles, and Rideshare vehicles to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Utilize telematic insights to recommend training programs, operational adjustments, and safety enhancements tailored to each vehicle type.
- Collaborate with training and safety teams to develop recommendations based on telematic data to enhance safe driving practices and service quality.
- Support transit operations and safety teams in retrieving video footage and telematics data for incident review and analysis.
- Maintain accurate service records, equipment inventory, and system documentation.
- Collaborate with IT, fleet maintenance, and transit operations staff on system upgrades, new installations, and technical projects.
- Provide data-driven reports to management that outline areas for improvement, training needs, and safety enhancements.
- Train drivers and supervisors on Onboard safety monitoring system event triggers, system usage, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Stay current on industry standards, best practices, and emerging technologies in vehicle telematics and video safety systems.
- Demonstrate regular and punctual attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
QualificationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES- Familiarity with IP/networked video systems, GPS tracking devices, and cellular communications hardware.
- Ability to safely operate transit vehicles (with proper licensing or endorsements as required).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to interpret telematic data and apply insights to improve driver training and operational procedures.
- Effective communication and customer service abilities.
- Exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
- Focus on tasks and recall details; handle frequent interruptions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in electronics, automotive technology, or IT preferred. Minimum of 2 years' experience installing or maintaining vehicle telematics, video surveillance, or similar electronic systems, preferably in a fleet or transit environment. A valid driver's license.

Accrual Rates:Retirement Plan All Ben Franklin Transit employees are members of the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Ben Franklin Transit and the employee both contribute toward the plan. PERS provides regular retirement and disability retirement benefits. BFT employees also participate in the Social Security Program. Rates effective as of 9/1/2024. ()
Voluntary Retirement Savings PlansBen Franklin Transit offers two voluntary retirement savings plans. The first option is through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) and is a 457 self-funded plan. The second option is Administered by Mission Square Retirement and is also a 457 self-funded plan. You may enroll in both, one, or neither.
Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance Ben Franklin Transit offers Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance. BFT currently pays 97.5% of insurance premiums for the employee and 90% for their dependents.
HRA VebaBen Franklin Transit provides this employer funded health reimbursement arrangement that can be used for medical expenses.
Life Insurance Ben Franklin Transit currently pays the entire premium for life insurance coverage ($35,000) for basic life and ($5,000) for accidental death and dismemberment. Employees may purchase Supplemental Life Insurance for employee, spouse and/or dependents through MetLife.
Long Term Disability Ben Franklin Transit offers long-term disability for employees through WA Health Care Authority Public Employees Benefits Board (PEBB) Program.
