Overview

The Vascular Lab Technologist is responsible for performing non-invasive procedures including arterial and venous duplex imaging, carotid duplex imaging, transcranial imaging, arterial and venous plethysmography, TCP02, arterial bypass imaging, dialysis access imaging, and venous mapping as directed by physicians or department manager. Appropriately assesses patient's vascular status, elicits history of patient's condition and obtains pertinent past medical/surgical history. Identifies and communicates with referring or ordering physician critical results of vascular assessment which may lead to potentially hazardous squeal within 30 minutes of test completion and documents date, time, name of notification and relayed information.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a EPIC IT Credentialed Trainerat Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
  • Operates laboratory equipment including (but not limited to) TOCM, ultrasound systems and pulse volume recorder. This includes the ability to maneuver equipment either in the department or at bedside (equipment weights can range from 100 to 550 pounds).
  • Ensures each patient has an electronic order or outpatients have a prescription/ancillary service form for the test.
  • Performs vascular assessment utilizing stethoscope, Doppler ultrasound probe, as well as digital palpation of pulses and blood pressure measurements.
  • Acknowledges change in patient's vascular status by comparing present findings previous studies.
  • Prepares Vascular Laboratory preliminary report in computer database. Reviews their reports for accuracy.
  • Obtains and records insurance and demographic information on patients for purposes of billing.
  • Maintains departmental record keeping practices and assists clerical staff when necessary.
  • Provides explanation and instructions to patients. This can be done verbally or through non-verbal gestures, e.g. how to position extremity, respiratory maneuvers, etc.
  • Positions patients appropriately for optimum technical results which includes assisting a patient to turn on side; externally rotating extremity and assists patient on and off stretcher to standing position, while maintaining patient's safety.
  • Adheres to and promotes the quality standards as they pertain to patient satisfaction by using AIDET and patient recovery HEART. Maintains confidentiality of patient data HIPPA.
  • Able to maintain current knowledge base through the review of appropriate literature as well as attending conferences.
  • Able to participate in review and correlation of invasive procedure results.
  • Establishes and maintains a professional relationship with co-workers and other health care professionals in order to assure quality patient care, including students in training.
  • Participates in the orientation of new staff as requested.
  • Complies with annual mandatory education requirements or Health Service requirements in accordance with policy.
  • Participates and complies with on call coverage.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.


Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Completion of formal Vascular Technology training program or general ultrasound including vascular technology curriculum.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
  • Computer experience.
  • Previous experience in non-invasive testing; one-year experience in hospital with direct patient contact.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Registered Vascular Technologist Certification.
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
  • Registered Vascular Specilalist Certification.

Starting Minimum Rate

Minimum rate of $40.28 Hourly
