Full Job Description
Role and Scope of Position:
Develop computer aided designs (CAD) based on field investigations, project scope, and engineering criteria supplied by project/discipline engineers in support of electric substation construction projects for Eversource transmission and distribution facilities. The selected candidate must possess the ability to execute simultaneous projects, work to a schedule, and follow-to-completion, communicate well with others, and use computers effectively.
Essential Functions:
  • Develops or oversees the development of detailed design packages for projects through discussions and meetings with appropriate engineering, construction, and operating personnel, other design disciplines, and appropriate outside vendors.
  • Works within standardized procedure and practices to achieve objectives and scheduled deadlines.

Civil Designer:
  • Structural design and detailing including, development of plan and elevations, structural steel layout and detailing, reinforced concrete layout and detailing, hardware assembly, below grade cable management system, foundation detailing, and equipment support drawings with support from Engineering.
  • Develops site development designs including existing conditions plans, site preparation and grading, drainage systems, piping systems, sanitary sewer and disposal system, water supply system drawings with support from Engineering.

Electrical Designer:
  • Develops physical design drawings including plan, profile, and detail drawings associated with equipment arrangements, lightning/direct stroke protection, lighting, grounding, and above grade conduit.
  • Develops Relay and Control Enclosure electrical and mechanical design drawings including components of power distribution, emergency power, security, mechanical equipment control, fire protection, ventilation, and HVAC systems with support from Engineering. Develops wiring drawings based on P&C schematics, 1-Lines, 3-Lines.

P&C Designer:
  • Develops protection and control, automation, telecommunication, and alarming design drawings including: three-line, control schematics, switchboard and panel layout diagrams, alarm reporting, metering and telemetry, transformer LTC and paralleling, capacitor control, AC and DC distribution, transient fault recording, breaker and motor operator control, breaker synchronizing and reclosing, and carrier/transfer trip/pilot wire and audio tone with support from Engineering.

All Functions:
  • Coordinates design effort with other design disciplines and project team members.
  • Has sufficient knowledge of design philosophies and standards to function independently on projects and teams, requiring occasional oversight while working within guidelines and policies.
  • Provides guidance, training, and direction to less experienced team members, and CAD Technicians.
  • Prepares and maintains bills of materials and other supporting documents associated with the design drawing development.
  • Develops and recommends cost effective design solutions.
  • Identifies, retrieves, and updates drawings associated with specific projects from the appropriate document control system.
  • Attends field visits during the design process to verify site conditions, resolve field issues and verify the accuracy of designs by means of visual observation and measurements.
  • Provides design services to process, review, and approve design changes to accommodate field-related problems and ECNs.
  • Verifies, and/or directs the verification of, the "As-Built" condition of design documents using design personnel or labor supplied by outside contractors.
  • Understands key business drivers and applies this understanding in executing work activities.
  • Solves problems in straightforward situations; analyzes possible solutions using technical experience, judgement and precedents.
  • Evaluates, or assists in evaluating, bids, quotes, and requests for additional or new equipment and materials.
  • Provides design and CAD services to Engineering and Operations, upon request, to aid them in the preparation of federal, state, and local license submittals and other special assignments.
  • Provides on-site design approval of equipment and components during vendor fabrication.


Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skills:
  • Proven and accomplished AutoCAD and design skills required to produce detailed design drawings.
  • Working knowledge of a) electrical systems and I/O control circuits, or b) mechanical systems and components, or c) civil, structural, site design, and architectural structures and components
  • Ability to apply department engineering, design, and CAD standards and procedures.
  • General knowledge of all applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Ability to learn and apply CAD techniques for both 2D and 3D design development and drawing generation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas and follow direction, both written and oral.

Education:
  • Associate of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology, or Associate's Degree in CAD Technology is preferred.

Experience:
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of related utility design or technical experience.

Licenses & Certifications:
  • Individual must hold a valid motor vehicle operator's license.


Working Conditions:
  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

$84,980.00-$94,420.00
