Location: Vancouver BC, CanadaJob Description: We are seeking an experienced hands-on Utility Applications Technical Architect to provide technical leadership for BC Hydro's Generation application portfolio under the Application Management Services (AMS) program.
The architect will be responsible for application architecture, technical support, integrations, modernization, and solution design across a diverse landscape of utility applications supporting Generation Operations, Asset Management, Water Resource Management, Dam Safety, and related business functions.
The successful candidate will work closely with BC Hydro stakeholders, Functional Architects, AMS delivery teams, infrastructure teams, and third-party vendors to ensure application reliability, performance, maintainability, and alignment with BC Hydro's modernization and cloud transformation objectives.
Your Role: AMS Technical Support and Continuous Improvement - Support incident, problem, change, and release management processes in accordance with AMS delivery standards.
- Lead root cause analysis activities and implement sustainable solutions to improve application stability and reliability.
- Serve as the primary technical escalation point for critical incidents, complex problems, and high-priority application issues.
- Identify opportunities to automate operational activities and improve support efficiency through tooling and process enhancements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service quality, reduce technical debt, and optimize application performance.
Integration and Solution Design - Analyze and resolve complex application, data, and interface issues across interconnected systems.
- Collaborate with development and support teams to continuously improve integration performance, resiliency, and maintainability.
- Design and oversee integrations between enterprise applications, operational systems, middleware platforms, databases, and cloud services.
- Define API, data exchange, and integration patterns that support secure, reliable, and scalable business operations.
- Ensure application integrations comply with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, and operational requirements.
Application Architecture and Technical Leadership - Lead application modernization, technology refresh, and cloud transformation initiatives across legacy, custom-built, and commercial applications.
- Conduct architecture assessments and recommend improvements to application platforms, frameworks, and supporting technologies
- Review solution designs, enhancement requests, and technical proposals to ensure scalability, maintainability, security, and operational effectiveness.
- Provide technical leadership and architectural oversight for BC Hydro's Generation application portfolio, ensuring alignment with business and technology objectives.
- Establish and promote technical standards, best practices, and governance processes across AMS delivery teams.
Stakeholder and Vendor Collaboration - Support knowledge transfer, mentoring, and capability development activities within the AMS delivery organization.
- Work with infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, and third-party vendor teams to ensure seamless delivery of application services.
- Communicate technical risks, dependencies, and solution options clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with BC Hydro business stakeholders, Functional Architects, application owners, and technology teams to support evolving business needs.
- Participate in governance meetings, technical reviews, and planning workshops to provide architectural guidance and recommendations.
Your Skills and Experience: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in application development, architecture, application support, or enterprise systems.
- 5+ years of experience designing and supporting enterprise application integrations.
- Experience supporting large AMS or managed services engagements.
- Experience with application modernization, upgrades, and cloud migration initiatives.
- Strong understanding of enterprise application architectures and software development lifecycle practices.
Required Technical Expertise - Microsoft .NET / .NET Core, C#, ASP.NET
- Java-based enterprise applications
- SQL Server and Oracle databases
- REST APIs, SOAP/WCF services, and enterprise integrations
- Legacy application technologies including VB.NET, VB6, and VBA
- Web, desktop, mobile, and client-server applications
- Azure and/or AWS cloud platforms
- DevOps, CI/CD, and application monitoring tools
The base compensation range for this role in the posted location is $70,000 - $165,000/year.
