Job Description

As a Usability Designer within Philips' Ambulatory Monitoring & Diagnostics (AM&D) business, you will play a critical role in shaping products that improve patient outcomes and clinician experiences around the world. You'll champion user-centered design, ensuring our solutions are safe, effective, and intuitive while advocating for the needs of patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals across a global portfolio of innovative products and services.

Your role:

  • Defining usability activities across all development phases in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including UX designers, clinical specialists, product managers, researchers, and system engineers.
  • Conducting user research, task analysis, and developing use scenarios.
  • Providing usability input to the design of user-centered and safe-to-use solutions.
  • Leading usability FMEA activities.
  • Planning, executing, and reporting usability evaluations and ensuring critical findings are addressed.
  • Conducting summative evaluations and creating the usability engineering file in compliance with FDA guidance and IEC 62366-1.
  • Analyzing post-market and telemetry data to identify usability issues.

You're the right fit if:

  • You’ve acquired 2+ years of experience in usability engineering for complex systems, preferably with medical devices. This is complimented by experience across the product lifecycle, from user needs and task analysis to validation and post-market follow-up.
  • Your skills include:
    • Knowledge of cognitive and physical ergonomics.
    • Familiarity with quality management systems and risk management principles, and the ability to produce high-quality formal documentation.
    • An understanding of regulatory requirements for medical device usability, including FDA guidance and IEC 62366-1 (preferred).
  • You have a bachelor's or master's degree in human factors engineering, human-computer interaction (HCI), cognitive science, product or interaction design or similar discipline.
  • You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this .
  • You’re an excellent communicator, both written and verbal.

How we work together

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.

This is an office role.

Philips Transparency Details

The pay range for this position in MA is $129,000 to $205,000.

The actual base pay offered may vary within the posted ranges depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity. 

In addition, other compensation, such as an annual incentive bonus, sales commission or long-term incentives may be offered. Employees are eligible to participate in our comprehensive Philips Total Rewards benefits program, which includes a generous PTO, 401k (up to 7% match), HSA (with company contribution), stock purchase plan, education reimbursement and much more. At Philips, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each case.
