Role summary:
The (USA) Staff, Software Engineer plays a critical role in delivering scalable platform capabilities by leading software development, infrastructure, and tooling initiatives. This position drives the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles to enhance system resilience and agility. The role involves collaborating with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable solutions, mentoring engineering teams, and promoting technical excellence through design reviews and continuous improvement. The engineer ensures alignment with strategic goals while fostering innovation, operational efficiency, and high-quality deliverables across multiple projects.
About the team:
The Content Platform Team pioneers the development of next-generation retail and shopping experiences across online and physical stores. This group leads Walmart's initiatives in interactive content and Extended Reality, creating innovative multimodal experiences both internally and with strategic partners. The team applies cloud-native architecture and software design principles to build scalable, resilient platforms. Members collaborate closely to deliver high-quality solutions, leveraging skills in API design, DevOps, and continuous development. Focused on innovation and technical excellence, the team drives impactful projects that enhance customer engagement and support Walmart's evolving technology landscape.
What you'll do:
  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap priorities.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
  • Conduct system design reviews to validate quality and alignment with architectural standards.
  • Build AI-driven applications integrating ML components and automation features.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements.
  • Utilize data-driven approaches to define success metrics and optimize development processes.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance tools, processes, and product quality.

What you'll bring:
  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong experience in software development lifecycle management, encompassing coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in API design, software prototyping, and applying software design patterns for secure, modular, and maintainable solutions.
  • Ability to lead platform engineering efforts, including infrastructure, tooling, and ML framework development.
  • Skilled in data-driven decision making to define metrics and optimize engineering processes.
  • Demonstrated capability in mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement through remedial action and innovation in development practices.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
