What you'll do...
Role summary:

The Principal, UX Designer - AI Shopping leads the development and enhancement of user experience strategies by conducting comprehensive research, including user interviews and journey mapping. This role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to translate insights into innovative design solutions that improve customer interactions. The position requires expertise in prototyping, usability testing, and visual design to create scalable, user-centered products. The Principal Designer also drives continuous improvement by evaluating emerging trends and ensuring alignment with business objectives, fostering effective partnerships to deliver exceptional user experiences across digital platforms.
What you'll do:
  • Design best-in-class AI shopping experiences with a high bar for craft and usability
  • Shape agentic shopping journeys where AI proactively assists customers across discovery, decision-making and purchase
  • Design experiences that span Walmart-owned surfaces and 3rd party AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini), ensuring consistency, trust, and brand integrity
  • Partner closely with product managers, engineers, data scientists, and UXR to translate AI capabilities into meaningful customer value
  • Balance user needs, business goals, and technical constraints in a rapidly evolving AI landscape
  • Rapidly prototype, test, and iterate on concepts in a fast-paced environment
  • Champion design thinking and responsible AI principles throughout the organization

What you'll bring:
  • Mastery across a wide spectrum of design disciplines, including visual, interaction, and systems design
  • The ability to clearly communicate and negotiate complex, AI-driven flows through compelling narratives, designs, and prototypes, both to internal partners as well as external partners
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to envision future states with north star experiences, and a systems-thinking approach to simplifying highly technical and ambiguous problem spaces for quick iteration and learning
  • Experience facilitating design sprints, workshops, or research sessions across cross-functional teams

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
