Role summary:
As a Principal Software Engineer at Walmart, you will lead platform engineering initiatives by delivering scalable, cloud-native solutions and reusable infrastructure components. This role involves driving the full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, integrating AI/ML technologies, and ensuring high availability and fault tolerance. You will provide strategic technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate complex business needs into effective technical solutions. Your expertise will support Walmart's long-term platform evolution while fostering innovation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
About the team:
The Unified Recommendations Platform (URP) team drives the development of a scalable, integrated platform that enhances recommendation systems across Walmart Ads. The team focuses on designing and implementing cloud-native, distributed systems supporting real-time data processing and AI integration. Emphasizing technical excellence and innovation, URP delivers reliable, high-quality software solutions. Team members collaborate closely to shape platform architecture and advance foundational capabilities. What you'll do:

What you'll bring:
  • Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable tooling.
  • Proven ability to lead full software development lifecycle including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and incident response.
  • Strong expertise in AI/ML integration and building intelligent software systems using languages such as Python, Java .
  • Hands-on experience building data pipelines, data processing workflows, and distributed systems to support high-volume recommendation.
  • Skilled in applying model-driven design and cloud computing architecture principles to enhance system reliability and performance.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and mentorship capabilities fostering engineering excellence and innovation.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
