The Opportunity
As the US Medical (USM) Business Strategy and Operations (BSO) Senior Manager, you will serve as an indispensable strategic thought partner and operational engine to US Medical leaders and cross-functional teams. Operating in an impactful individual contributor capacity, you will bridge medical strategy with world-class execution—ensuring our networks deliver on critical priorities that bring clinical evidence to healthcare stakeholders and patients. You will champion agile ways of working, facilitate high-stakes cross-functional initiatives, and streamline business processes across our dynamic healthcare landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the operationalization of Strategic Medical Planning, translating high-level medical strategies into structured, milestone-driven execution roadmaps.
Drive end-to-end project management across complex initiatives, establishing schedules, managing budgets and resources, mitigating delivery risks, and tracking tangible medical impact.
Facilitate high-impact network and functional meetings, driving alignment, active team inclusion, ruthless tactical prioritization, and decisive action tracking.
Foster an agile team environment by coaching cross-functional partners in lean and agile ways of working (Kanban, Scrum, Miro, Smartsheet) to accelerate decision-making and cross-organizational clarity.
Manage cross-functional governance and partner interfaces, including potential alliance management accountabilities to coordinate goals and deliverables with external collaborators.
Proactively identify business process gaps, partnering with Compliance and Operations SMEs to simplify workflows and design scalable, compliant operational solutions.
Spearhead change management and strategic communication plans that reinforce Genentech’s Operating Principles and break down organizational silos across USMA and Global networks.
Who you are
You hold a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, business, or related analytical field.
You bring 6 or more years of relevant professional experience within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with focused experience in Medical Affairs, strategic operations, or complex project management.
You possess demonstrated expertise in drug development lifecycles, commercialization pathways, and the operational cadence of Medical Affairs organizations.
You have a proven track record of influencing senior stakeholders and mobilizing matrixed, multidisciplinary teams without formal authority.
You are comfortable navigating ambiguity, utilizing sound judgment to prioritize ruthlessly, and solving multifaceted process challenges through collaborative problem-solving.
Preferred
Advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, MS, or MBA).
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Agile/Scrum Master certification, or equivalent credentials.
Hands-on experience implementing enterprise collaboration platforms and agile work tracking tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Miro, Trello, Jira).
Proven experience managing external vendor partnerships or alliance management frameworks.
Location
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of CA is $136,100 -$252,700. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
