Job Title: US Economic Research Analyst

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $110,000 and $135,000/year* (see below footnote for additional compensation and benefits information).

Role Description:

The US Economic Research team produces thoughtful and timely analysis on various aspects of the US Economy. The team monitors domestic economic and political developments, providing key insights and a dynamic US economic outlook generated by detailed underlying forecasts, with a particular focus on Fed policy. Nomura's trading desk relies heavily on the US Economic Research team's macro view. The team communicates its views primarily through periodic research reports and frequent client meetings.

Job Duties:

The US Economic Research Analyst will focus primarily on analyzing macroeconomic data - with implications for growth, inflation and the labor market - forecasting and following Federal Reserve and government policy. In this role, you are responsible for modeling/analysis, conducting research,

contributing to research reports and servicing institutional clients.

Key tasks include:

  • Providing rapid analysis of data releases for key economic indicators with thoughtful and concise written comments
  • Developing and maintaining forecasting models (time series, panel and larger macro)
  • Monitoring and analyzing real-time comments from Federal Reserve officials and their market implications
  • Supporting internal stakeholders (traders and sales) with data requests and commentary
  • Assisting with and participating in client meetings
  • Specializing in and developing expertise in a specific sector of the US economy
  • Assisting with publishing reports and updating key charts/tables

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
  • 0 - 2 years of industry experience
  • Strong quantitative skillset, including a background in economics, mathematics, statistics or data science with some programming ability
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong understanding of economic principles
  • Familiarity with some combination of Stata, EViews, Python, R, or similar
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • High level of intellectual curiosity
  • Significant attention to detail
  • Ability to be on-site in the NYC office 5 days per week

* base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, corporate and functional title and duties, job-related knowledge and advanced degrees, skills, and experience.
