Position Available: University House Manager (EMU)Schedule: Full-Time, First Shift
Salary: $75,000+ (based on experience)
Location: Eastern Michigan University Campus, Ypsilanti, Michigan
ESSENTIAL DUTIESDirect the operation of all contracted housekeeping, grounds, general maintenance activities and responsible for coordination of events designated to The University House.
Participate in the development and control of maintenance budgets. This includes:- Establishing contracts with all contractors that work through the House. Specify and negotiate contract terms with outside contractors, evaluate their performance, and take necessary actions to ensure that University standards are maintained.
- Purchasing all cleaning supplies, equipment, and any household items needed for the House (i.e., linens, flowerpots, etc.).
- Reconciling and paying all invoices that pertain to the House.
- Directing the expenditure of funds and adjusting operational activities within budget limitations.
Communication (liaison) between the University House and campus. This includes:- Liaison for communications pertaining to maintenance issues (Physical Plant), House events, and dining service).
- Communicating with the grounds contractor to ensure proper landscape design and scheduling for grounds work.
- Coordinating with the Grounds Department to ensure proper snow and refuse removal for events, etc.
- Communicating with the housekeeping contractor to plan and control schedules for cleaning coverage.
- Serving as a liaison between University Departments.
Operations:- Walking through the House to determine maintenance issues, submitting work orders, and following up with the appropriate department (Carpentry, HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical etc.).
- Walking through grounds to determine needs for landscaping as well as reporting any issues to the Grounds Department.
- Ensuring the House is secured by engaging all locks on the doors and alarming as necessary.
- May assume responsibility for a specialized area, such as EMU House residency.
- Performing related Departmental duties as required.
- Hiring, training and supervising the housekeeping staff.
- Communicating with the Physical Plant concerning any projects in the House or on the grounds.
- Scheduling repairs and maintenance as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge and skills in problem solving, supervision, organizational planning, and communications typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field is preferred.
Must possess strong communication skills, the ability to multitask, high-level organization, and exceptional attention to detail.
Proficient in Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides or any adjacent application (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
Experience in related Facilities and Event planning is desirable.
Supervisory experience with the demonstrated ability to plan, communicate, organize and direct the work of others is necessary.
WORKING CONDITIONSWork is typically performed in an office environment, however, requires occasional travel on/off campus as needed.
