Introduction The Department of Safety and Professional Services mission is to promote economic growth and stability while protecting the citizens of Wisconsin as designated by statute. DSPS and related professional boards protect the citizens of Wisconsin by ensuring the safe and competent practice of licensed professionals; performing inspections of commercial buildings, amusement rides, boilers, elevators, pressurized gas systems, and electrical systems; and performing plan reviews of commercial building, plumbing, fire suppression, elevators, boilers, and private onsite wastewater treatments systems.
What We Are Looking For: An experienced Uniform Dwelling Code (UDC) Consultant to provide consultation on complex code issues in relation to the construction, installation, and inspection of One-and-Two Family Dwellings, Camping Units, Modular Homes, and Manufactured Homes. The consultant would be responsible for code-related matters covering all areas of UDC as it pertains to construction of the dwelling and the installation of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems for these dwellings.
Where We Are Located: This position can be headquartered out of the following locations: Madison, Green Bay, Waukesha, La Crosse, or remotely working out of their home location. This position allows the option to work remotely up to 5 days per week. All employees are generally expected to telework and reside within the State of Wisconsin. This position will be required to come into the office for training, meetings and/or operational needs. This topic will be discussed more at the time of the interview.

Position Summary The Uniform Dwelling Code Consultant Advanced acts as a primary consultant and inspector on technical and complex code and administrative issues in relation to applications involving One-and-Two Family Dwellings, camping units, Modular Home Program, the installation of manufactured homes, and manufactured home communities. This position is responsible for acting as a consultant by monitoring and auditing the policies and procedures of enforcement and for resolution of complex structural and code issues. This position reviews plans, approves, or denies permits for construction, processes petitions for variance, conduct municipal UDC audits, assists in the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, investigates complaints, inspects, and consults with internal and external customers to determine compliance with the applicable laws.
Salary Information This position is in schedule-range (14-13) with an
annual salary of $72,800-$93,600, plus a $1.00 hourly add on for being a licensed professional engineer or designer of engineering systems. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications A minimally qualified applicant will hold ALL the following Wisconsin certifications: - Certified UDC-construction inspector
- Certified UDC-electrical inspector or certified commercial electrical inspector
- Certified UDC-HVAC inspector
- Certified UDC-plumbing inspector or certified commercial plumbing inspector; and
- Certified soil erosion inspector (if not obtained with the UDC-construction inspector)
