About the RoleThis is a rare opportunity to join a high-performing, expanding team at the forefront of Crisis Management insurance. Reporting directly to the Deputy Head, you'll play a central role in driving new business, managing a diverse portfolio, and contributing to the strategic direction of the unit. From underwriting complex risks to nurturing key broker relationships, your work will have a direct and meaningful impact on the team's growth and profitability.
Key Responsibilities- Source and generate new business opportunities across small, middle market, and large/complex risk segments
- Underwrite renewal and new risks, applying rigorous analysis and sound judgment to each submission
- Deliver thorough pricing analysis grounded in comprehensive review of loss scenarios and risk profiles
- Provide key input into risk appetite and share valuable market intelligence to inform strategic decisions
- Develop, nurture, and grow relationships with key producers, brokers, and clients to build a robust and sustainable book of business
- Service the existing book of business in a timely and professional manner, ensuring a high standard of client experience
- Collaborate cross-functionally with claims, legal, and product teams to manage open claims, losses, and manuscript wording recommendations
- Manage complex accounts and deliver innovative, tailored insurance solutions to both existing and prospective clients
- Inherit and grow an existing renewal portfolio while simultaneously building a new pipeline of opportunities
- Contribute to division-wide strategy discussions, helping to shape growth and profitability direction for the unit

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:- 2 to 3 years of underwriting experience (or equivalent), with a solid understanding of loss and combined ratios
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex risks and develop sound pricing recommendations
- Underwriting Assistant experience with booking systems, file maintenance and policy issuance is desired
- Proven ability to drive the deal process with brokers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to present ideas clearly and persuasively to a range of audiences
- University degree (undergraduate or postgraduate) or equivalent professional qualification
These are additional nice to haves:- Experience in product contamination and/or product recall insurance lines
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders across all levels
- Experience contributing to portfolio strategy, including market feedback, risk appetite discussions, and growth planning
- Comfort with occasional domestic travel to meet brokers and clients
- A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with the ability to inspire and challenge peers in a constructive and inclusive way
- Stress resilience and the ability to work independently, managing competing priorities without losing attention to detail
The work location for this role will either be in our New York, NY office, our Chicago office, or our Windsor, CT office. Our company uses a hybrid work model requiring at least three days in the office each week, with the option to work onsite full-time if preferred. This position is
not eligible for full-time telework, relocation assistance or visa sponsorship.
The estimated base salary range for this position is $108,000 to $162,000. The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
