Underground Foreman - Civil Construction Location: Alberta (Central / Northern Projects) Company: Blackline Civil Inc. Position Type: Full-Time About the Role We are seeking an experienced Underground Foreman to lead field crews in the installation of underground utilities, including water, sanitary, and storm systems. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who understands underground construction inside and out and can drive productivity while maintaining high-quality standards. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for directing daily site activities, coordinating crews and equipment, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to specification. Key Responsibilities Lead and supervise underground utility crews in day-to-day operations Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials to meet production targets Install water, sanitary, and storm systems to line and grade Read and interpret drawings, grades, and specifications Work closely with Superintendents and Project Managers on scheduling and execution Ensure proper trenching, shoring, and safe excavation practices Oversee bedding, pipe installation, backfill, and compaction activities Monitor productivity and adjust crew activities to maintain efficiency Complete daily reports, track quantities, and document site progress Identify and resolve site issues proactively Enforce and promote a strong safety culture on all job sites Coordinate with inspectors, consultants, and other trades as required Qualifications & Experience 5-10+ years of experience in underground civil construction Proven experience as a Foreman or Lead Hand on underground crews Strong knowledge of: Water, storm, and sanitary installation Deep utilities and trenching practices Bedding, backfill, and compaction requirements Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings and grades Experience working with laser and/or GPS grade systems Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Experience with municipal and commercial development projects Valid driver's license (Class 5 required; Class 3 considered an asset) What We're Looking For A hands-on leader who leads from the front Strong understanding of productivity, sequencing, and crew efficiency Ability to make decisions quickly and solve problems in the field High accountability and attention to detail Team-first mindset with a focus on execution Commitment to safety, quality, and getting the job done right What We Offer Competitive salary based on experience Company provided vehicle Extended health and benefits package Opportunity to grow with a rapidly expanding civil division Strong pipeline of work across Alberta
