Description

About The Role

Draganfly Innovations is seeking a UAS Field Engineer to support advanced unmanned systems testing, deployment, and operational integration across defense, public safety, and commercial environments. While this role is remote, regional proximity supports in-person field operations, flight testing, customer engagements, and industry events.

The UAS Field Engineer serves as a critical technical link between product development and real-world mission execution. This role focuses on structured flight testing, system validation, and field deployment of Draganfly UAS platforms, while also supporting customer-facing demonstrations, training, and operational evaluations. You will work closely with Engineering, Product, and Field Operations teams to identify system gaps, validate improvements, and ensure platforms are reliable, performance-driven, and mission-ready.

This is a remote role that requires 30-50% travel based on program and deployment needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute structured flight test campaigns for UAS platforms, payloads, and software systems
  • Develop test plans, test cards, and data collection methodologies aligned with engineering objectives
  • Identify, document, troubleshoot, and resolve performance, reliability, and integration issues across aircraft, payloads, GCS, and communications systems
  • Validate fixes, updates, and new features in coordination with Product and Engineering teams
  • Maintain detailed test logs and deliver clear, actionable reports to inform product decisions and roadmap priorities
  • Support integration of third-party payloads, sensors, and software solutions
  • Contribute to SOPs, training materials, and operational documentation to improve system reliability and reduce operator cognitive load
  • Perform hands-on field repairs and system adjustments to maintain mission readiness
  • Serve as the on-site technical authority during deployments, demonstrations, and operational evaluations
  • Support and lead customer-facing demos, training events, and mission integration activities
  • Translate customer mission requirements into executable system configurations and workflows
  • Train operators on system operation, mission planning, and best practices
  • Collaborate with strategic partners, internal engineering, and product teams to accelerate product maturity
  • Represent Draganfly as a trusted technical expert in high-visibility, high-pressure environments

Who Are You Really?

  • Mission-Oriented: You understand operational requirements and adapt systems to meet real-world needs
  • Technically Strong: You can diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues across complex UAS platforms
  • Credible Operator: You build trust quickly with military, law enforcement, and enterprise users
  • Structured & Disciplined: You bring rigor to testing, documentation, and execution
  • Adaptable: You perform effectively in fast-paced and high-stakes field environments

Qualifications:

  • 5-7+ years of experience in UAS operations, flight testing, field engineering, or a similar technical role
  • Hands-on experience with multi-rotor UAS platforms, ground control systems, and mission planning software
  • Strong working knowledge of MAVLink-based systems and tools such as QGroundControl
  • Proven ability to plan, execute, and document structured flight test campaigns
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex systems across aircraft, payloads, communications, and GCS
  • Deep understanding of UAS flight operations, regulatory considerations, and operational risk management
  • FPV flight skills and strong situational awareness during testing and field operations
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to deliver clear, actionable feedback to engineering and product teams
  • Ability to work effectively in dynamic, high-pressure field environments
  • Willingness to travel approximately 30-50% based on program needs

Preferred Specializations

  • Military aviation or UAS background (Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, SOCOM, or defense contractor experience)
  • Direct mission experience supporting defense, public safety, ISR, or enterprise drone programs
  • Familiarity with FAA Part 107, BVLOS waivers, public safety COAs, Transport Canada RPAS, or emerging airworthiness frameworks
  • Experience working in a hardware/software startup, robotics company, or dual-use defense technology environment
  • Hands-on experience with third-party payload integrations, sensors, and tactical communications systems
  • Exposure to BVLOS enablement, mesh networking, or operations in GPS-denied or degraded environments

Compensation package:

  • Competitive salary: $105,000 - $125,000
  • Health Coverage Reimbursement: We reimburse the cost of your existing or preferred healthcare plan (amount varies depending on family size).
  • 401(k) program with employer matching
  • Generous time-off program, including vacation, wellness days, and a week off between Christmas and New Year's.
  • Professional development support, including assistance in obtaining or maintaining role-relevant certifications (e.g., FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, where applicable)
