Full Job Description
U.S. Sustainability Director

Location: Green River, WY

Role Purpose

Lead sustainability across WE Soda's US operations, ensuring the Group Sustainability Plan is understood and actively embedded across the US leadership team. Scope includes, but is not limited to, planning, governance, reporting, management systems, sustainability transformation and stakeholder management. The role also ensures the Group Sustainability Plan reflects local and regional context.

Key Responsibilities

Sustainability Strategy & Governance
  • Support the development and adaptation of the Group Sustainability Plan
  • Track and report progress against the Group Sustainability Plan
  • Ensure the sustainability strategy remains relevant within the national and local context
  • Lead deployment of the regional sustainability roadmap
  • Coordinate sustainability governance activity in-country
  • Coordinate sustainability assurance and certification activity, notably IRMA (Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance) and, where relevant, Responsible Glass
  • Support and provide input on building the roadmap for ISO 14001 (environmental) and ISO 45001 (health & safety) management-system certification

Carbon, Water & Waste
  • Lead carbon strategy, reporting and reduction roadmap governance for the country
  • Partner closely with engineering, energy and water teams to agree long-term technical roadmaps
  • Coordinate regional sustainability initiatives covering carbon, waste, water efficiency and catchment stewardship
  • Lead environmental performance initiatives - emissions, waste, water, land, wildlife, and resource management - driving the company's broader sustainability commitments, ESG reporting, and GHG emissions data governance
  • Own the beyond-compliance environmental agenda, including nature protection and biodiversity, tailings safety, and closure planning
  • Lead water rights strategy and agency engagement, and oversee easement negotiations with landowners and crossing agreements with third parties (US operations)

Stakeholder, Community & External Engagement
  • Support, or lead where appropriate, local stakeholder engagement including local communities, national NGOs, academic institutions and local regulators
  • Coordinate with the country leadership team on government affairs activity linked to sustainability, climate, emissions trading schemes (ETS) and carbon markets, and environmental topics
  • Support external sustainability positioning and engagement

ESG & Sustainability Reporting
  • Lead ESG reporting and disclosure activity for the country
  • Oversee ESG data governance, assurance and digitization
  • Produce quarterly sustainability dashboards
  • Undertake site-based environmental and social impact assessments
  • Coordinate the collection and consolidation of data and narrative for Group reporting frameworks and ratings, including TCFD/TNFD (climate- and nature-related financial disclosures), CDP, EcoVadis, Sustainalytics and Sedex


Skill, Capability and Educational Requirements

Qualifications & Experience
  • B.S in environmental science, sustainability, engineering or a related discipline required; a relevant postgraduate qualification is preferred
  • Senior-level experience in sustainability, ESG or EHS leadership within heavy industry, chemicals, mining or manufacturing, required
  • Strong working knowledge of ESG reporting frameworks and ratings relevant to the role (e.g. TCFD/TNFD, CDP, EcoVadis, Sustainalytics, Sedex, IRMA), required
  • Experience engaging regulators, NGOs, academic institutions and community stakeholders in a national context, required
  • Proven ability to translate group-level strategy into local delivery, strongly preferred

Skills & Competencies
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across a matrix organization
  • Able to operate credibly at both strategic and site-operational level
  • Confident, clear communicator, able to represent the company externally
  • Willingness to travel regularly between sites and periodically to company headquarters in London
