Job Description

Position Description:

We are seeking a skilled ore processing metallurgist to join our team in the Turquoise Ridge Process area. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting the metallurgical processes at our gold plant, which treats refractory gold ore through milling, acidulation, pressure oxidation in autoclaves followed by neutralization, Carbon-In-Leach (CIL) and stripping processing. This role requires a solid understanding of refractory gold treatment, pressure oxidation, and CIL processes, along with problem-solving and analytical skills.

Responsibilities:

Project Development
  • Develop business cases for new projects
  • Coordinate and schedule the completion of all project stages. Including a proper application of the Management of Change process. Assuring proper involvement of all stakeholders
  • Evaluate project ideas and implementation of new equipment. Targeting improvements in Safety/Environmental, production rates, costs, and recovery
  • Support Process troubleshooting, alongside the Plant Metallurgists
  • Support scoping, prefeasibility, and feasibility studies for new projects and plant expansions
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for management and project stakeholders
  • Manage relationships with consultants, vendors, and testing laboratories


Metallurgical Test Work
  • Design, coordinate, and monitor laboratory, pilot-scale and plant-scale metallurgical test work
  • Liaise with external laboratories, consultants, and technology providers, as required to obtain proper technical support and results for new projects' evaluation
  • Analyze test work results and provide recommendations for process design and optimization
  • Ensure quality control and technical integrity of metallurgical data


Process Design Support
  • Support the development of mass balances, water balances, and process design criteria
  • Participate with Engineering in equipment selection processes and review of process engineering deliverables
  • Participate in process hazard analyses and design reviews
  • Review operating strategies and process control requirements
  • Act as metallurgical technical representative for capital projects, supporting design, commissioning and operational readiness activities


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or equivalent Process-related degree
  • 2-5 years of experience in mineral processing plants, preferably in gold hydrometallurgical operations
  • Experience in project planning and execution
  • Experience in metallurgical test work design and interpretation
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proactive and collaborative mindset
  • Familiarity with process control and plant data management systems (e.g., PI System, SCADA, DCS)
  • Understanding of refractory ore processing, sulfur chemistry, and leaching
  • Experience in milling, acidulation, pressure oxidation, CIL and stripping circuits, is preferred
  • Proficiency in Excel, metallurgical data analysis, and basic mass balancing
  • Hands-on experience with daily troubleshooting and shift support in a plant setting
  • Awareness of maintenance planning and reliability programs
