Full Job Description

Air Products is seeking a Turbomachinery Aerodynamic Design Manager to join our Rotoflow® business in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. In this role you will serve as the Aerodynamics Domain Owner for Rotoflow®, providing technical leadership for aerodynamic design strategy, performance prediction methodologies, aerodynamic engineering tool improvements, and the continued advancement of aero capabilities across our global portfolio of turboexpanders, centrifugal compressors, and turbomachinery systems. You will also lead and develop a team of four Aero Engineers while supporting the successful execution of customer projects worldwide. This position follows a hybrid work arrangement with four days per week in the office and requires minimal travel, typically less than 10%.

Rotoflow®, an Air Products business, is a leading turbomachinery OEM serving customers around the world with new equipment, aftermarket services, and engineered solutions. For decades, Rotoflow has specialized in the design and manufacture of cryogenic and warm gas centrifugal turbomachinery supporting industrial gas, hydrocarbon, LNG, and petrochemical applications. Our products include compressor-loaded turboexpanders, generator-loaded power recovery expanders, and custom-engineered turbomachinery solutions designed to deliver exceptional performance, efficiency, and reliability.

This is not a traditional engineering management position. As the Aerodynamics Domain Owner, you will provide technical leadership for aerodynamic design, compressible flow applications, performance prediction methodologies, CFD-based analysis, and engineering best practices. You will guide the future direction of aerodynamic capabilities across the organization while remaining actively involved in the aerodynamic design and execution of customer projects. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of aerodynamic design for one of the industry's most respected turbomachinery and turboexpander OEMs.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Aerodynamics Domain Owner for Rotoflow®, providing technical leadership and direction for aerodynamic design, aerodynamic analysis methodologies, and performance prediction capabilities.
  • Serve as the organization's technical authority for aerodynamic design, compressible flow applications, aerodynamic performance, and turbomachinery analysis.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of four Aero Engineers while fostering technical excellence, innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Establish, maintain, and evolve aerodynamic design methodologies, engineering standards, and best practices supporting Rotoflow’s turbomachinery portfolio.
  • Drive continuous improvement of aerodynamic engineering tools, including aero sizing and performance prediction tools used to support equipment selection, machine configuration, aerodynamic analysis, and design optimization.
  • Spend approximately seventy-five percent (75%) of time performing aerodynamic design activities supporting awarded customer projects.
  • Lead the advanced aerodynamic design and flowpath optimization of impellers, vanes, centrifugal compressors, turboexpanders, and related turbomachinery components to improve efficiency, aerodynamic performance, and operating range.
  • Spend approximately twenty-five percent (25%) of time leading and supporting the Aero Engineering team responsible for equipment integration, operation, performance, and delivery.
  • Apply the appropriate level of analytical fidelity, including CFD, 2D and quasi-3D methodologies, 1D performance calculations, and aerodynamic performance mapping techniques.
  • Support and guide new product development efforts while continuously improving the efficiency and performance of existing products.
  • Collaborate with product, proposals, simulation, process, and manufacturing engineering teams from proposal development through project execution.
  • Contribute throughout the equipment lifecycle, including equipment testing, field commissioning, startup support, aftermarket activities, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
  • Evaluate opportunities to improve aerodynamic software tools, engineering workflows, modeling approaches, and performance prediction methodologies.
  • Drive cost reductions and enhance competitiveness across both project execution and product offerings.
  • Challenge conventional approaches and develop innovative solutions grounded in strong engineering fundamentals.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, performance evaluations, development planning, and objective setting for direct reports.
  • Promote safety, diversity, and inclusion consistent with the values of Air Products and Rotoflow.
