2026-27 SCHOOL YEAR

SALARY: $63,438- $112,732 (25-26 Salary Schedule)

TITLE: PHYSICAL THERAPIST

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited physical therapy education program and record of having successfully completed the required field work with the physical therapy profession.
  • Licensed or able to obtain licensure in the State of Washington as a Physical Therapist.
  • ESA certification as a Physical Therapist or able to obtain ESA certification.
  • Experience working in the field of special education within the public-school setting preferred.
  • Consultation and education on a formal or informal level with medical and educational professionals, paraprofessionals, and parents regarding education programming and disability information.
  • Criminal Justice Background Clearance.

Based on collective bargaining between the Tumwater Education Association and Tumwater School District, the District will grant relevant experience for placement on the salary schedule, pending experience verifications. This experience includes private and public sector experience outside of education, in accordance with WAC 392-121-264 (f)I.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Screen and evaluate students as to gross motor skills and functional abilities in order to assist in diagnosis and school placement
  • Participate as a GQP/multi-disciplinary team member in making decisions regarding program planning for handicapped students
  • Provide consultation to staff and parents regarding the remedial/treatment needs of students with motor dysfunctions
  • Administer physical therapy procedures and modalities designed to achieve the goals of the program established for each student
  • Establish, maintain, monitor, and record physical therapy goals and objective
  • Manage equipment supplies, and repairs necessary for functional operation of physical therapy
  • Work closely with a special education teacher, speech therapist, occupational therapist, parents and educational assistants as part of a trans-disciplinary teaching model.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • May oversee and collaborate with physical therapy assistant.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation

DESIRED BACKGROUND/SKILLS:

The school physical therapist is a licensed health care professional within the professional of physical therapy with Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certification who provides services for children with identified physical disability, motor deficit movement dysfunction and/or developmental delay which interfere with learning. Physical therapy services seek to prevent or minimize disability, relieve pain, develop and improve sensory and motor function, control postural deviations, and maintain or attain optimal performance within the individual's capabilities in the educational environment.
