Full Job Description
Job Summary:

We are seeking a hard-working and motivated attorney to handle a wide range of trusts, estate and elder law matters. The successful candidate will work closely with clients to draft wills, trusts and other estate planning documents; oversee the administration of probate and trust administration; and provide counsel on elder law issues such as Medicaid, guardianship, and long-term care options. This role requires a deep understanding of New York State and federal laws, and a commitment to advocating for the client's best interest in a compassionate way.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Draft, review and finalize estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney and healthcare proxies.
  • Provide legal advice and oversee probate and trust administration, including preparing court filings, inventories and accountings. Court appearances as needed.
  • Assist clients with elder law matters, including Medicaid eligibility, asset protection, and guardianship proceedings.
  • Conduct client consultations to assess needs and develop personalized legal strategies.
  • Stay current on relevant NYS and federal laws, regulations, and case law, including tax laws and tax-related planning techniques.
  • Collaborate with paralegals and other attorneys to ensure seamless case management.
  • Represent clients in court or administrative proceedings as needed.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license, in good standing, to practice law in New York State.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in trusts and estates and elder law. That said, we are willing to train the right candidate who has less experience.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills.
  • Compassionate and client-centered approach to legal practice. Commitment to a positive client experience.
  • Ability to manage a diverse caseload with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Experience with estate tax planning matters is a plus.
