Traveling Millwright / Structural Welding Foreman

Location: Kansas - Traveling Position

Pay: $35-$45+ Based on experience

Job Type: Full-Time / Traveling Project Work

Schedule: Project-based schedule, overtime may be available

Position Overview

We are hiring an experienced Millwright / Structural Welding Foreman for a traveling position in Kansas.

This is a foreman-level role for someone who can lead from the front. The right candidate will have strong structural welding and millwright experience, be comfortable managing crews, and know how to keep a jobsite safe, organized, and productive.

This position is best for someone who has worked in commercial or industrial settings and can lead a crew without needing constant direction.

What You'll Do

  • Lead crews of 3-10+ workers on commercial and industrial projects
  • Assign daily work and keep the crew moving efficiently
  • Coordinate with the general contractor, plant contact, or jobsite representative
  • Read structural, architectural, shop, welding, and equipment drawings
  • Solve field issues and help keep the project on schedule
  • Mentor employees and set the standard for quality work
  • Track daily production, material usage, timesheets, progress photos, and job updates
  • Help identify RFIs, change orders, and field adjustments when needed


Structural Steel Work May Include

  • Columns and beams
  • HSS framing
  • Miscellaneous metals
  • Stairs, handrails, and guardrails
  • Roof screen walls
  • RTU / MAU frames
  • Steel decking
  • Bar joists and bridging
  • Lintels, mezzanines, and equipment platforms


Millwright Work May Include

  • Equipment setting and alignment
  • Conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, and couplings
  • Shaft alignment
  • Chutes and hoppers
  • Shutdown work
  • Maintenance and repair work
  • Field installation and mechanical troubleshooting


Welding Experience Needed

  • SMAW / Stick welding, including E7018
  • FCAW and GMAW experience
  • Structural welding
  • Field welding and fabrication
  • Heavy equipment repair
  • Weld quality control
  • Air arc gouging
  • Torch and plasma cutting


Equipment and Tools You May Use

  • Telehandlers

Rigging Knowledge

Qualified candidates should understand safe rigging practices, including:

  • Load charts

  • Basic lift planning


Safety Responsibilities

This person will help lead safety on the jobsite. Responsibilities include:

  • Completing daily JHAs
  • Leading toolbox talks
  • Enforcing PPE requirements
  • Following fall protection rules
  • Managing hot work permits
  • Understanding LOTO awareness
  • Keeping the work area clean and organized
  • Following OSHA safety standards


Requirements

  • 8-10+ years of commercial or industrial millwright and structural welding experience
  • Previous foreman or lead experience
  • Experience leading 3-10+ person crews
  • Ability to read drawings and understand field layouts
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel, welding, millwright work, and rigging
  • Comfortable working around lifts, cranes, heavy equipment, and active jobsites
  • Willing to travel for work in Kansas
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Reliable, professional, and accountable
  • Must take pride in quality workmanship


Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
  • AWS welding certification or documented structural welding experience
  • Experience with commercial steel projects, industrial maintenance, shutdowns, or equipment installation
  • Experience working directly with GCs, plant managers, or project managers
