Summaryof Duties:Under the leadership of the Assistant Director, Health & Wellness, the Trauma Therapist provides trauma-informed and culturally grounded therapeutic counselling services to healing program participants, consistent with their training, professional designation, and scope of practice.
The Trauma Therapist supports cúystwi amhílec (Let's Heal Ourselves) programming through individual, family, group, and community-based therapeutic approaches. The position requires strong relationship-building skills and the ability to provide safe, respectful, and culturally responsive support to community members while honoring Ntákmen (Our Ways), Lilwat teachings, and community protocols.
Key Deliverables and Expectations:- Provide trauma-informed and culturally responsive therapeutic counselling services to Lil'wat community members of all ages, in accordance with professional training, designation, and scope of practice.
- Clearly communicate therapeutic approaches, boundaries, and scope of practice to clients, families, and relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain a counselling caseload that may include individual, couple, family, and group counselling, and develop treatment plans aligned with client goals.
- Facilitate and/or co-facilitate group healing opportunities such as trauma recovery groups, grief and loss supports, psychoeducational workshops, and land-based healing activities. Co-facilitation may occur with program team members and/or knowledge keepers.
- Support and participate in department programming, special initiatives, and community events, including prevention, wellness, and healing activities.
- Collaborate with team members, other Lil'wat Nation departments, surrounding Indigenous community leaders, and external service providers to support coordinated, culturally safe care.
- Assess and respond appropriately to client safety, risk, and crisis situations, including trauma activation and critical incidents.
- Provide appropriate referrals and connections to additional support, services, and resources, as needed.
- Honour clinical, ethical, and cultural protocols, while remaining open to ongoing learning, reflection, and professional growth.
- Seek and participate in clinical supervision with the LHH Counselling Manager, a clinical supervisor, or an external supervisor whenever concerns arise that are beyond scope of practice.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records, charts, and reports in accordance with professional, legal, and organizational standards.
- Attend team meetings, case consultations, and professional development opportunities.
- Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Experience and Attributes: - Master's degree in clinical counselling, Counselling Psychology, or a related field.
- Registered and in good standing with a recognized professional body, such as BCACC, CCPA, or an equivalent regulatory or professional association, and holding an RCC, CCC, or equivalent designation.
- Training in, and demonstrated experience providing, trauma-informed therapeutic practice.
- Demonstrated ability to work with complex trauma, with an understanding of the impacts of vicarious trauma and a commitment to supervision, self-care, and reflective practice.
- Lived experience with, or experience working alongside, Indigenous communities is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational, time management, and documentation skills. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building abilities.
- Demonstrates professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of work and interactions with community members and colleagues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and client charting systems; Canva is an asset.
- Ability to provide a clear Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License, clean driver's abstract, and access to a reliable vehicle (eligible for mileage reimbursement)
