SALARY: $84,490 - $110,981 annually

NEW HIRES ARE CONDITIONAL UPON PASSING A FINGERPRINT SCREENING

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Administer the training program to new and/or incoming staff to provide instruction for the success and completion of the commercial drivers license (CDL) requirement set forth by Washington State and/or the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
  • Assist and review current new driver training program(s) to find areas of improvement, efficiency and/or compliance on a regular basis.
  • Oversee and maintain student disciplinary process in order to ensure the safe transportation of all students.
  • Review and process videos as needed.
  • Act as a liaison with parents and district staff for complaints and special requests.
  • Facilitate all bus driver/bus attendant evaluations of personnel including "on-route" evaluations as needed.
  • Oversee the shop department.
  • Supervise and administer the Transportation Department random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Work cooperatively with front-office staff and Transportation Director to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Maintain safety standards in conformance with state, federal and insurance regulations.
  • Assist with collecting data for all required state reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assist with investigations and/or provide accident reports to appropriate agencies as well as schedule and/or facilitate all accident review boards in a timely manner.
  • Assist Transportation Director in checking road conditions and making recommendations during inclement weather as to whether buses shall run on approved regular routes, emergency routes, delayed start or not at all.
  • Provide assistance for route optimization to include but not limited to travel time, delivery windows, and/or ways to improve/minimize transportation expenses.
  • Assume related duties of the Transportation Director in their absence.
  • Brief drivers on special requirements, road conditions and routing.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
  • Must be capable of working flexible hours including 24/7 availability.
  • Handle complex duties while demonstrating leadership and organizational skills.
  • Work efficiently under pressure.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and an excellent work record.
  • Must be familiar with federal, state and local laws pertaining to student transportation.
  • Must work within designated bounds of authority and confidentiality.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all school district records and/or files.
  • Must maintain valid Washington State Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for school bus, including the renewal of CDL as required by Washington State.

NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist other personnel as may be required to support them with the completion of their work activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • 5 years experience in student transportation required.
  • Current and valid Class B Washington State Commercial Drivers License with Passenger/School Bus Endorsement, or able to obtain within 6 months, required.
  • Prior experience and understanding of management techniques and organization patters required.
  • Availability for 24/7 emergency call-outs, weekend and/or weekday trip monitoring required.
  • Experience in evaluating and/or supervising transportation personnel required.
  • Current and valid First Aid and CPR card required.
  • Completion of ESD 112 Driver Trainer Course and 2 years as a driver trainer preferred but not required.
  • Completion of Central Washington University Pupil Management Program or willingness to attend.
  • Bilingual and/or Biliterate (Spanish), preferred but not required.
  • Experience working in a K-12 setting preferred but not required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Skilled and/or experience in transportation logistics management.
  • Experience with transportation-related software, radios, and or systems.
  • Knowledge of transportation route optimization.
  • Ability to provide training on dispatch communications.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure.
  • Skilled in general office equipment, software, and/or two-way radios.


REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND TESTING:
  • Current Washington State drivers license with Class B CDL and School Bus/Passenger endorsement.
