Transportation Landscape Architect I, II or III based at the
Austin District Headquarters in
Austin, Texas. This position develops environmentally sensitive landscape architectural designs and provides support to the landscape development and establishment of projects. Work requires contact with government officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
This requisition is for a Transportation Landscape Architect I, II or III. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of the position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level, and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.
Salary Plan/Grade:Landscape Architect I: B24 ($65,104.00 - $106,634.00/yearly)
Landscape Architect II: B26 ($76,530.00 - $129,430.00/yearly)
Landscape Architect III: B28 ($92,600.00 - $156,612.00/yearly)

Position DescriptionThis position develops environmentally sensitive landscape architectural designs and provides support to the landscape development and establishment of projects. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:The essential duties of a Transportation Landscape Architect I, II or III include:- Develops and reviews plans, specifications, estimates and special provisions pertaining to landscape projects and/or landscape items related to roadway construction projects.
- Oversees and coordinates administration of landscape programs or projects with public or private organizations, consultants, districts and divisions.
- Provides technical assistance on issues concerning landscape architecture.
- Represents the Department in meetings with local and state officials and the public.
- Trains inspection personnel on landscape projects.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Additional responsibilities of a Transportation Landscape Architect II and III:- Provides support to landscape field personnel, divisions and/or districts on issues concerning landscape architecture.
- Serves as a district or division program coordinator for landscape programs and projects.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Additional responsibilities of a Transportation Landscape Architect III:- Responsible for complex landscape architectural projects from initiation to completion.
- Serves as an Americans with Disabilities Act consultant to the District.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:Education: Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture.
Experience:
- Transportation Landscape Architect I:
- Transportation Landscape Architect II:
- 4 YEARS Professional Landscape Architecture-related work

- Transportation Landscape Architect III :
- 5 YEARS Professional Landscape Architecture-related work
(Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent) Substitutions for Minimums
Licenses and Certifications:
- Must be registered as a Landscape Architect by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners.
- Safety Impact Certificate
- Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Competencies: The essential competencies of a Transportation Landscape Architect I, II or III: - Landscape programs
- Landscape and vegetation management design including plans, specifications and estimates
- Product/method evaluation related to landscape and vegetation management projects
- Americans with Disabilities Act, modifications and requirements including accessibility standards
- Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external
- Performing design/drafting work and preparing plans
- Prioritizing and organizing work assignments
- Handling multiple tasks and projects
Additional competencies of a Transportation Landscape Architect III: - Reviewing plans for accuracy and ensuring compliance with requirements
- Prioritizing projects/workload and meeting deadlines
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
- Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
- Hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels;receive information by oral communication
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
- Visual Acuity-determine work quality/make general observations of facilities/structures
- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs. at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
