Transportation Engineering Manager

Department: Transportation

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Albuquerque, NM

Reporting To: Spencer Stephenson

Compensation: $170,000 - $190,000 / year

Description

Unmatched Comp Time Policy: Hours worked over 40 in a week can be reimbursed as additional pay at an equivalent hourly rate or banked as additional PTO.

This role is built for someone who wants to develop people, not just manage a headcount. You'll have real ownership in shaping the team, with the autonomy to build a structure that works and the trust of senior leadership to help influence where this practice goes next.

What are the core responsibilities for the role?
  • Build, lead, and manage a team of transportation design engineers across roadway, drainage, structures, traffic, and utility disciplines
  • Coordinate with project managers, design engineers, technicians, and support staff to staff and deliver a variety of projects successfully
  • Manage and forecast workload for the transportation design team
  • Create an environment where people can grow, including mentoring junior staff and identifying development opportunities
  • Help identify and develop future leaders within the team
  • Manage projects and collaborate with other technical groups on design and analysis of freeways, interstates, interchanges, and urban and rural roadways, keeping delivery on time and on budget without sacrificing technical quality
  • Prepare studies, reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a range of transportation projects
  • Support client relationships and business development in New Mexico
  • Partner with our Business Development Team on pursuing new opportunities and developing proposals


Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Professional Civil Engineering certification (P.E.), required
  • 12+ years of professional experience
  • Significant experience in transportation engineering, with a track record of taking on project management, client facing, and leadership responsibilities
  • Engineering and design experience in New Mexico is a plus
  • Experience in roadway, traffic, and/or drainage is a plus
  • Familiarity with Bentley OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar transportation engineering software
  • Experience with DOT and municipal plan preparation procedures and standards
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with clients, staff, and management
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and organized
