Transportation Practice What We're Looking For:Michael Baker is currently looking to add a Transportation Engineer/Technical Manager to join the Minneapolis, MN Team. This is a hybrid position with a flexible work schedule allowing for remote work and 2 days per week in the downtown Minneapolis office. The ideal candidate will focus on delivering transportation projects for a wide variety of clients both locally and across the country, including Design-Build opportunities. Ideal candidates will demonstrate advanced technical knowledge and expertise in highway design and 3D modeling in OpenRoads Designer in the delivery of projects for these clients.
What You'll Do:- Supervise the preparation of plans for road and highway design.
- Prepare and perform QA/QC reviews of drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Coordinate with engineers and technicians to ensure accurate deliverables meeting client expectations.
- Perform 3D modeling, technical analyses, calculations, and tasks as needed in support of projects.
- Supervise the preparation of studies, construction documents, calculations, maps, reports, and other supporting documentation to support road and highway design.
- Review quantities and construction cost estimates prepared by others.
- Prepare scope of work and cost estimates for proposals.
- Provide technical guidance to less experienced personnel on specific tasks related to highway and transportation projects.
- Manage staff utilization by scheduling, monitoring, and revising assignments.
- Satisfy project requirements by ensuring that quality standards and deadlines are met.
- Stay knowledgeable of trends and current developments within the transportation industry.
- Responsible for maintaining client satisfaction and meeting directly with clients.
- Participate in internal and external professional development activities including events, conferences, and networking opportunities through professional organizations.
- Provide guidance by mentoring and motivating staff on issues such as performance feedback, financial management, and client relations.
- May work directly with Human Resources on performance issues and succession planning.
- Assist managers with highway department and Minneapolis office business development goals.
What You Need to Succeed:- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- At least 8 years of related experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license and maintain professional licensure.
- High level of proficiency with various CAD and Microsoft Office programs with the ability to produce high quality design documents, exhibits, computations, and reports
- Possess excellent client facing skills and ability to enhance and develop client relationships
- Proven experience in working on multiple projects concurrently
- Ability to work independently and within a team setting to support related projects and assignments
- Ability to assist in developing strategic approaches and concepts
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in OpenRoads Designer in the areas of template creation, corridor modeling, plan production, modeled quantities, and preparing digital project deliverables.
- Preliminary and Final Design experience on projects for local clients including Minnesota Department of Transportation and Minnesota counties.
- Experience supervising employees in various technical or professional positions.
CompensationThe approximate compensation range for this position is $114,000 to $179,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
