By joining our Division of Structural Design as a Transportation Engineer Specialist in Franklin County,you'll have the opportunity to design highway structures in accordance with KYTC requirements as well as inaccordance with the AASHTO LRFD (Load and Resistance Factor Design) Bridge Design Specifications.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Design bridges, culverts, and retaining walls
- Detail structures in accordance with design
- Check designs of other Engineers
- Check details in conformance with designs
Ideal candidate will have experience in:
- Structural Analysis and computer modeling
- Detailing structures using MicroStation
- Design Structures using AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
- Concrete Design
- Steel design

- Valid Driver's license required.
- Required to be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and LandSurveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering licensefrom the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:See Special Requirements.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:Must have four years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a Professional Engineer.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license from the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six month probationary period. Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites which require the following of safety procedures.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
