Job Description:

This is a professional level geotechnical engineering position.  The incumbent will be responsible for providing geotechnical engineering services for highway projects with a full range of complexity. 

Preliminary design tasks will include:

  • Overseeing and inspecting subsurface exploration programs,

  • Developing lab testing programs,

  • Evaluating site conditions, and,

  • Development of foundation alternatives and identification of pertinent geotechnical aspects for Preliminary Design Reports. 

Final design tasks will include:

  • Follow-on geotechnical engineering evaluations,

  • Preparation of geotechnical design reports,

  • Development of soil profile and boring log sheet, and,

  • Producing cost estimates and construction specification for geotechnical items. 

This position will require periodic field work, to oversee or log subsurface exploration programs and to provide support to field personnel on various geotechnical construction activities.  Work is performed in a team environment.  Strong interpersonal and teaming skills are required. Work is performed under limited supervision.

To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:

Licensure as a Professional Engineer plus two (2) years of work experience beyond such licensure which demonstrates the performance of significantly complex engineering science, competency in evaluating risk, and applying sound engineering judgement as it applies to planning, project development, and/or maintenance of public works structures and facilities.

Licensing/Registration/Certification Requirements: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).

Licensure as a Professional Engineer as issued by the Maine State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers.
