Full Job Description
Description We are seeking a collaborative and growth-oriented leader to join our team as a Section Manager for the Mountain Region Transmission Department. In this role, you will be responsible for the managerial direction and leadership of our junior team members, specifically focusing on the development of assistant and staff-level engineers, designers, and drafters. You will also partner with department leadership to support department operations, including executing business strategy, developing high-performing teams, and promoting Burns & McDonnell culture, values, and mission. Job Responsibilities

People Leadership & Development
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching to assistant and staff-level engineers, designers, and drafters.Actively foster a collaborative environment based on MacCulture principles, diversity and inclusion, ownership, and teamwork.
  • Conduct regular check-ins, performance appraisals, and development meetings to support individualized career growth and staff retention.
  • Identify training needs and assist in developing programs that strengthen technical ability and project delivery skills.
  • Advocate for safety and promote a healthy work-life balance within the department.

Recruiting & Onboarding
  • Proactively recruit, interview, and hire interns, new graduates, and experienced professionals in coordination with Human Resources, referrals, universities, and industry networks.
  • Oversee onboarding and training curriculums for interns, new graduates, and experienced hires transitioning into the business line.

Department Operations & Innovation
  • Partner with department leadership to coordinate work assignments, monitor project progress, and manage financial goals.
  • Develop an innovative culture by implementing tools and technology such as Office 365 applications, data models, and AI to drive continuous improvement.
  • Review timecards, monitor team utilization, and maintain proper investment of overhead labor and costs.Perform other duties as assigned by department leadership.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction, or a related degree from an accredited program and five years of related professional experience in design and/or project management.
  • Position requires the ability to tactfully and positively influence, lead, and develop teams.
  • Proven planning, collaboration, and facilitation skills through previous leadership or management experience.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Familiarity with and implementation of tools and technology, such as Office 365 applications, data models, AI tools, and other data tracking tools.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or other relevant professional registration is highly preferred.

Compensation

$145,000.00-335,000.00 Yearly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
