Your OpportunityThe Transmission Planning Power Systems Studies Engineer conducts a wide range of power systems modelling and analysis, including power flow, short circuit, post-transient, and transient stability studies for system impact studies, load and generation interconnections, and NERC TPL-001 compliance studies. The applicant shall have experience with PSSE and Python; experience with PSLF and/or Aspen would be considered an asset. An understanding of the analysis required to carry out these studies in compliance with applicable industry standards is necessary.
This position can be located out of any of Stantec's North American offices and is also open to remote options within this region.
Your Key Responsibilities- Perform power system modelling and studies using PSS/E, PSLF, ASPEN. Types of studies include:
- Power flow
- Transient (dynamic) analysis
- Post-transient analysis
- Short circuit
- Prepare scripts and programming to assist with the automation of the simulations, compilation of results, and analysis.
- Prepare study reports, identifying assumptions, methodology, analysis, and results.
- Participate in meetings with the client to initially kick off the project, review project progress and present results and recommendations.
QualificationsYour Capabilities and Credentials- Understanding of electrical power system and power electronics theory.
- Proficiency in Python programming
- Experience with PSS/E required, experience with PSLF preferred.
- Experience with other power system simulation tools would be considered an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively explain and discuss solutions with clients.
- Self-motivated and able to collaborate with a group of professional engineers.
Education and Experience- Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering; Masters or Ph.D. degree preferred.
- Industry experience in transmission planning studies is preferred.
