Job Summary

Responsible for leading and managing the Transmission Planning organization for the Appalachian Power region. This role oversees transmission planning studies, reviews study results, defines system needs, and develops recommended solutions to maintain reliability, support growth, and balance capital investment, maintenance, and operating alternatives. The position also provides regulatory support, including preparation of testimony, base cases, and presentations for customers and state commissions, while ensuring coordination with internal teams and external reliability and planning organizations.

What you’ll do:

Essential Job Functions & Tasks

  • Lead and manage the Transmission Planning team and its work plan in support of transmission goals and strategies.
  • Oversee transmission planning analyses, study development, and review of study results for the Appalachian Power region.
  • Evaluate system needs and guide development of practical, cost-effective solutions to address reliability and capacity issues.
  • Balance capital investments, maintenance expenditures, operating procedures, and system reinforcements in planning decisions.
  • Support regulatory activities, including customer presentations, state commission support, testimony, and justification of base cases.
  • Ensure timely, high-quality analytical support for business unit and corporate decisions.
  • Represent the organization in matters involving transmission reliability standards, NERC, RTOs, regional reliability councils, and industry groups.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships across Transmission, Operations, Engineering, Asset Renewal, Project Management, Distribution, Construction Management, and other stakeholder groups.
  • Lead identification, justification, development, and scoping of the capital portfolio for the assigned region.
  • Support execution of transmission targets and coordination across regional teams to ensure successful project and study outcomes.

Education requirements are listed below:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited, or equivalent, university or college.

Work Experience requirement listed below:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years related engineering experience.
  • Three (3) years of management/supervisory experience is preferred.

Other preferences:

  • Professional Engineer designation preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present clearly to senior management, customers, and external audiences.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Experience with regulatory support, including testimony, state commission interactions, and customer-facing presentations.
  • Familiarity with transmission planning, study development, reliability criteria, and solution development.
  • Preferred location is New Albany; Virginia may also be considered.
  • Open to internal and external candidates.
