Responsibilities

  • Ensure operational integrity of EMS/SCADA systems by developing and maintaining databases.
  • Perform updates, integration, and testing of new SCADA device functionalities.
  • Act as the liaison with the PJM Telemetry Support group for support and issue resolution.
  • Manage the administration of the iTOA including logs and outage request modules.
  • Direct activities of servicemen and technicians on transmission and substation systems during shifts.
  • Evaluate and approve requests for Clearances and Right-to-Works on the transmission and substation system.
  • Assist in the development of EMS/SCADA processes for NERC compliance.

Full Job Description
This position ensures the proper operation and administration of the EMS/SCADA systems to include developing and maintaining databases, performing database updates, performing integration, modeling and point to point testing of new SCADA devices, acting as the primary liaison with the PJM Telemetry Support group, and develop operator training simulator scenarios.

The Transmission Operations Support Specialist will also ensure the proper operation and administration of the iTOA to include developing and maintaining logs and entry forms, maintaining email listings, maintaining the outage request module, and providing support to other department end-users of the application.

This position will cover shifts as assigned, per the Senior Transmission System Operator. This includes taking timely and appropriate real-time actions on the transmission and substation system, directing activities of servicemen, linemen, apparatus crews, and electronic technicians, and evaluating and approving requests for Clearances and Right-to-Works (RTWs) on the substation and transmission system.

The Transmission Operations Support Specialist will also assist in the development, maintenance and implementation of EMS/SCADA processes and procedures for NERC compliance.

This position requires a two-year college degree, or equivalent, with an emphasis in math, statistics, basic electricity, with specialized training in electric utility operation and maintenance, is required. Some computer courses are preferred.

The candidate must be a NERC and PJM Certified System Operator, with seven or more years of progressive experience in the operation or engineering of electric utility systems. Emphasis in a Control Center environment, EMS/SCADA, power system analysis tools, and supervisory experience are preferred.

The starting salary range for this position is $95,300 - $123,500. SMECO offers an excellent benefits program including a 401(k) 6% dollar for dollar match and an additional 3% non-elective company contribution.
