Job Description

Position summary: Our Rail & Transit Market area specializes in transit and transportation projects for public agencies, railroads, bus transit authorities, and planning organizations. Our projects benefit the public good and provide mobility opportunities for our fellow citizens. Projects include bus and rail stations, maintenance facilities, operations control centers, long-range planning studies and more.

As a Transit Architect your responsibility will be performing and leading all phases of architectural work from conceptual design through construction administration.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Lead small, mid-size, and large projects
  • Manage client relationships and team performance
  • Resolve complex technical and design issues
  • Analyze client problems and develop architectural solutions to those problems
  • Prepare planning studies, conceptual ideas, schematic design, design development, and construction documents, develop solutions and work directly with clients and consultants
  • Participate in client presentations and/or meetings, presenting ideas and solutions
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver project solutions based on expertise and an understanding of client goals
  • Coordinate with consultants (structural, MEP, fire protection/life safety, site/civil, geotechnical, construction managers, etc.)
  • Coordinate with the project team, client, vendors, contractors, and consultants
  • Focus on planning and execution of projects, developing design and technical solutions throughout all phases of a project
  • Prepare presentation drawings and models. Participate and contribute to design discussions, idea generation, and design work in drawing, model, and 3D image formats
  • Be responsible for the design and team members to complete design and construction documents on schedule and within budget
  • Interface with permitting agencies and AHJ's throughout the permitting process
  • In construction phase, review RFI's and submittals, support and/or lead field observations
  • Responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned major project, including investigation, evaluation and recommendation of design solutions that best meets the client's needs
  • Provide professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of large complex projects
  • Independently applies advanced architectural concepts and designs
  • Carries out complex assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced architectural staff
  • Can be relied upon to present directly to the client on technical and design solutions

Required Skills

  • Proficient with computer-assisted design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Lumion, Adobe Photoshop, etc.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint


Required Experience

  • Bachelors of Science In Architecture or Bachelors of Architecture
  • Professional Architect license
  • 10+ years of architectural design and construction experience
  • Experience in bus and/or rail transit architectural design and construction

Qualifications Preferred
  • Masters of Architecture
  • LEED AP or GGP certification
  • Strong 3D presentation, production & technical skills
  • Motivated, independent, accurate & cooperative problem solving with strong work ethic

Working Conditions
