Our Human Resources group is currently looking to add a Training and Development Lead to our growing team, based in Edmonton, AB.

Reporting to the Director, People Strategy, we are seeking an instructional design specialist who thrives on turning business needs into practical, high-quality learning experiences. This position will design, build, and manage the training programs that keep our workforce skilled, safe, and ready for the work ahead by assessing training needs across the organization, creating and delivering engaging learning materials, leading our technical trainers, and measuring the impact of every program that is launched. This role puts you at the center of building a capable, future-ready team.

Please Note: this position requires 25% travel within Canada and the United States, including visits to office locations and construction worksites.
Duties and Responsibilities

Program Design & Evaluation
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to identify training needs and goals
  • Design comprehensive training programs aligned with company objectives and industry best practices
  • Create training materials including presentations, manuals, videos, and online resources
  • Evaluate program effectiveness through assessments, feedback, and performance data, and recommend improvements
  • Stay current on industry trends, technologies, and regulations to keep programs relevant

Training Delivery
  • Facilitate training sessions for employees at all levels
  • Use a range of instructional techniques (presentations, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises) to deliver engaging, effective content
  • Adapt delivery methods to different learning styles to maximize comprehension and retention

Coordination & Administration
  • Oversee scheduling and coordination of training sessions, including trainers, facilities, and equipment
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of training records, including attendance, evaluations, and certifications
  • Administer the Learning Management System (LMS)

Competency Development
  • Design competency frameworks that define the skills and behaviours required across roles
  • Establish competency levels and progression criteria to support clear career pathways
  • Maintain accurate records of employee competency assessments

Leadership & Team Development
  • Provide direction and mentorship to Training Coordinators
  • Partner with technical trainers delivering field-level training
  • Collaborate with the Apprenticeship Program Leads to support program delivery and market readiness

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience in training and development, instructional design, or a related field
  • Demonstrated instructional design skills, with experience creating a range of training materials
  • Hands-on experience managing Learning Management Systems (LMS) and authoring tools
  • Demonstrated facilitation, communication, and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with high attention to detail
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% within Canada and the United States

Preferred Skills / Qualifications
  • Post-Secondary education in Education, Human Resources, Business, or a related field
  • Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP) designation
  • Experience designing and implementing competency programs
  • Familiarity with e-learning platforms and training technologies
  • Experience with BambooHR
  • Experience in the Construction Industry
