Full Job Description
This is a hybrid position based in Ogden, Utah. Candidates must be able to work onsite in our Ogden office a minimum of 4 days per week.

Job Summary

The Director of Total Rewards is a key leadership role on the People Team responsible for developing and managing Better Being's Total Rewards strategy - spanning compensation, benefits, wellness, and recognition. This is a strategic and hands-on role that requires both leadership and operational execution.

Essential Functions

Compensation

  • Own compensation strategy - job architecture, grade frameworks, pay equity, and incentive program design; assess current-state programs, drive them to completion, and build for scale as the business grows


  • Serve as the compensation subject matter expert for the People team and senior leadership - advising on pay decisions, translating data into clear recommendations, and communicating program rationale to executives


  • Lead and develop the compensation function; ensure market data, pay analytics, and reporting rigor underpin compensation decisions and policy


Benefits, Leave & Compliance

  • Own U.S. benefits strategy - plan design, vendor management, renewals, and employee education; manage broker relationships and hold partners accountable to performance, reporting quality, and value


  • Partner with broker to ensure accurate carrier data, stop-loss reporting, and proactive cost visibility; lead quarterly benefits reviews with senior leadership covering program performance, cost trends, and strategic recommendations


  • Oversee leave programs (FMLA, ADA, STD/LTD) - policy ownership, vendor oversight for outsourced administration, and ongoing compliance


  • Maintain 401(k) plan fiduciary oversight - plan accuracy, annual plan audit coordination and audit readiness, and vendor accountability


  • Lead Open Enrollment end-to-end - employee education, system configuration, vendor coordination, and post-enrollment reconciliation


  • Oversee recognition and wellness programs - vendor management, budget oversight, and employee education and engagement initiatives


  • Ensure compliance with ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, and applicable regulations; maintain required plan documents, filings, and notifications


  • Conduct initial assessment of international benefits offerings for employees in active countries; establish competitive frameworks and ensure ongoing compliance with country-specific obligations in partnership with Legal


Budget & Team Leadership

  • Own People Team budget operations and provide regular reporting to leadership


  • Manage and develop the Total Rewards team; set clear goals, provide coaching, and build capability


  • Ensure HRIS data accuracy across compensation and benefits; lead system configuration for rewards-related changes


  • Support company, department, and safety policies, procedures, programs, and activities


  • Other duties as assigned


Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field


  • 6+ years of progressive experience in Total Rewards, Compensation, or Benefits, with at least 3 years in a management capacity


  • Experience owning both compensation and benefits functions; comfortable moving between strategic and operational work


  • Demonstrated experience building compensation programs - philosophy, job architecture, pay structures, and grade frameworks


  • Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and leave compliance required; experience overseeing leave administration a plus


  • Workday experience preferred; strong working knowledge of compensation and benefits system configuration


  • Strong analytical and financial skills - comfortable managing budgets, evaluating vendor ROI, and building business cases for leadership


  • Knowledge of ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, and applicable wage and hour regulations required


  • Proven ability to manage vendor and broker relationships; strong negotiation and accountability management skills


  • International benefits or multi-country HR experience a plus


  • CEBS, CCP, or active pursuit of a recognized compensation or benefits certification a plus


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to influence and advise senior leadership


  • Must be able to work in our Ogden, UT office a minimum of 4 days per week


Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. Employee must exert up to 30 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently to move objects.
