Full Job Description

Introduction

The Quantum Topological Device Engineer (MTS) role is a technical contributor within the Quantum Technology Solutions organization focused on enabling next-generation quantum computing hardware based on topological qubit platforms. This position supports the development, simulation, fabrication, and characterization of advanced quantum devices, bridging device physics, materials, and semiconductor process technologies to enable scalable and manufacturable quantum systems.

This role works cross-functionally with integration, process development, and characterization teams to translate emerging topological quantum device concepts into practical semiconductor implementations aligned with manufacturability, yield, and scalability requirements.

Summary of Role

As a Member of Technical Staff, this role contributes to the development and optimization of topological qubit devices through simulation, design, fabrication, and characterization. The engineer will work on device physics in cryogenic environments, develop TCAD-based models, support device layout and test structure design, and analyze electrical characterization data to guide technology development.

The position emphasizes hands-on technical execution, strong analytical capabilities, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to enable robust and scalable quantum device platforms.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Support development of topological quantum devices and associated read-out and control circuitry
  • Perform device physics analysis and modeling, with emphasis on low-temperature and cryogenic behavior of quantum devices.
  • Develop and execute TCAD simulations to model device structures, materials interactions, electrostatics, and quantum transport effects.
  • Design device layouts and test structures to support fabrication, characterization, and process development activities.
  • Define and execute electrical characterization plans, including DC, RF, and cryogenic measurements, to evaluate device performance and variability.
  • Analyze electrical and physical characterization data to identify key performance drivers, failure mechanisms, and variability sources.
  • Apply statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis methodologies to monitor device performance and guide process optimization.
  • Support DOE (Design of Experiments) planning and execution to evaluate process-device interactions and optimize device performance.
  • Translate quantum device requirements into manufacturable device designs, design rules, and characterization methodologies.
  • Contribute to yield-learning activities, including root-cause analysis and corrective action development.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.

Required Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in semiconductor process or integration engineering
