Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Tooling Manager-Stamping with experience in stamping to support our Procurement organization.

 

This role involves managing all aspects of multi-million-dollar supply-based tooling for assigned commodities throughout the lifecycle of pre-production, production, and service, including engineering changes, refurbishment, and tooling relocations.

 

In this role, you will manage the full tooling lifecycle, including financials, design reviews, construction, technical guidance, try-outs, commissioning, and build event support. You will ensure tooling and process capabilities meet cost, quality, and timing requirements to achieve program goals. Collaborating with suppliers and cost reduction teams, you will identify cost-saving opportunities. You will also interface with internal and external customers, such as Supply Managers, Purchasing Program Managers, Quality Managers, and Product Development Engineers, to ensure effective communication and project success. Additionally, you will manage material procurement, production planning, inventory control, outsourcing, and vendor selection, while creating integrated processes that connect internal functions and external suppliers to optimize operations.

 

This role is within the Supply Chain Management function and involves a combination of disciplines.

Responsibilities

Tooling Completion

  • Maintain daily communication with suppliers regarding tooling schedules and progress.
  • Drive reduction of PSR (Pending Supplier Response) to enhance program timelines.
  • Prepare and present bi-weekly tooling completion updates during periodic review meetings.
  • Generate and distribute weekly tooling status reports to relevant stakeholders.

Invoicing & Financial Management

  • Review and approve tooling-related invoices for final payment ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Collaborate with Finance to monitor tooling spend and report monthly and quarterly forecasts.
  • Track and report capital tooling expenditure, supporting the CAR (Capital Approval Request) process.

Tooling Design, Feasibility & Review

  • Lead cost validation, tooling lead time estimation, and provide budgetary guidance for tooling concepts (Frame & Attach, Hose & Tube Tooling).
  • Conduct design and process reviews, providing DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFA (Design for Assembly) feedback.
  • Coordinate tooling reviews with Readiness Supply Managers through PartTrak system.
  • Oversee purchase order creation, processing, and invoice reconciliation for tooling orders.

Benchmarking & Supplier Collaboration

  • Share critical mathematical data with suppliers to support quoting for a range of tooling including hoods, cab-in-white, and brackets.
  • Conduct on-site supplier visits to assess capability, refurbishment needs, scrap management, and inventory control.
  • Capital Appropriation Management
  • Identify and vet tooling projects, maintain CAR status tracker and manage quarterly capital spend tracking.
  • Support webinars and communications to keep supply base informed on tooling initiatives.

Tool Moves & Logistics Coordination

  • Coordinate domestic and international tooling shipments with 3rd party logistics partners.
  • Manage completion of commercial documentation including ECCN and HTS numbers.
  • Maintain key logistics contacts and documentation for smooth tooling transportation.

Metrics & Cost Savings

  • Report monthly and year-to-date (YTD) metrics on purchase orders issued, amounts spent, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Manage and report on team cost savings, negotiating tooling cost reductions where applicable.

Project Management & Team Support

  • Lead and support tooling-related projects ensuring alignment with program timelines and goals.
  • Assist team members with advanced Microsoft Suite tools and support development of PowerPoint presentations for management reviews and departmental updates.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of supply chain, engineering or manufacturing experience
  • At least 1 years of lead experience
