Full Job Description
Summary of the Role:

A Manufacturing Tooling Engineer is responsible for optimizing and improving manufacturing processes in order to enhance efficiency, quality and productivity. Tooling engineers work on designing and implementing manufacturing methods, tools and equipment as well as analyzing production data to identify areas of improvement. They ensure products are manufactured cost-effectively and meet the desired quality standards.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Analyzes product design specifications and translates these into manufacturing processes to meet quality requirements and establishes acceptable cycle times and production levels
  • Develops manufacturing methods for new and existing products, establishes labor standards and develops product cost information
  • Meticulously documents all manufacturing process information and sequences within the site's document control system
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement to existing processes and methods using data or observation, develops the improvements and implements them as quickly as practical
  • Collaborates with Engineering to measure and understand the effects of process changes
  • Makes improvements to production rates and reduces scrap by identifying and implementing new and better equipment, processes or human factor methods
  • Assists Machining and Tooling departments in troubleshooting problems with individual components or processes to assure superior quality and on-time delivery of machined piece parts and tooling components
  • Assists CNC Programmers with creation and maintenance of tool libraries, post processor optimization and CAM software customization and development of best practices
  • Participates in determination of product DMR disposition plan and approval with the production teams
  • Works safely and acts in accordance with all safety policies and procedures
  • Collaborates with Operations and quality in overall machining process and equipment improvements
  • Leads and participates in continuous improvement projects to support department and corporate goals

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing processes, quality control and the use of industry specific tools and software
