Compensation

At S&C, we provide competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $87,758-$116,285.18. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Join Our Team as a Tool Design Engineer!

Are you passionate aboutTool Design?S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Tool Design department. As a Tool Design Engineer, you'll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.

The Tool Design Department is responsible for designing production tooling including fixtures, gages, assembly tooling, stamping dies, and product test equipment or to make improvements to existing tooling. In this position you will be given assignments requiring the use of a 3D CAD with Siemens Solid Edge, using 3DX platform to design new or redesign tools and help troubleshoot or problem solve various types of tooling. You will be working from various types of drawings and blueprints ranging from simple hand drawn documents or detail drawings to complicated CAD generated assemblies. You will be required to maintain high quality and productivity standards and adhere to all applicable safety practices and procedures. This position requires good verbal communication skills and the ability to work closely with other tool design engineers and tool makers, machinists, engineers, designers, and production personnel in a team environment.

The candidate considered for this position will work on-site at our Palatine, Illinois location, supporting our Value Stream engineering teams and report to the Assistant Manager-Tool Design.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and create drawings and models for new tooling/fixture/mechanical systems or improvements to the existing tooling/fixture/mechanical systems according to manufacturing needs using a 3D CAD modelling software.
  • Coordinate activities between tool designers, value stream engineers, suppliers, and production teams.
  • Assist with tool validation and troubleshooting during production trials.
  • Support design reviews, documentation updates, and progress reporting.
  • Support the implementation of new tools, technologies, and best practices.
  • Support and mentor fellow team members in the candidate's area of expertise.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and tooling specifications.
  • Help ensure projects meet cost, quality, and timing targets.
  • Track project progress, identify risks, and escalate issues to the Project Manager or value stream engineering leadership.
  • Collaborate with tool designers to ensure manufacturability, functionality, and compliance with standards.
  • Ensure design files, revisions, and project records are properly organized.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


What you'll Need To Succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering field (e.g., Manufacturing Engineering, Tool Engineering, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering).
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing environment involving processes and tools.
  • Strong drafting skills with experience in 3D CAD modeling (SolidEdge preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organization and presentation skills, including ability to map out projects, prioritize workloads and maintain documentation.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work with people in a production/plant environment.
  • Proficiency in the use of PC using Word, Excel, SharePoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Office environment but will be asked to perform investigations within both manufacturing and assembly area
