The Threat Management and Response (TMR) Product Owner (PO) role is responsible for identifying, refining, and prioritizing backlog for the Threat Management and Response teams. The PO represents the voice of the customer to the team and should articulate WHAT is to be delivered but leave it to the team to determine the HOW. In coordination with the team's Tech Leads, Architects, and management, the PO drives value to the business by relentlessly readying product backlog from myriad sources and ensuring the top priority work items are the 'next up' for the team to deliver.
The Product Owner is expected to be knowledgeable on Product Security and be able to break down Epics into Features and Stories for their team to plan and deliver. They should have a working understanding of cybersecurity threat management and response concepts, including how SOC and Incident Response teams operate, the role of detection engineering and threat hunting, the use of cyber threat intelligence, and vulnerability management workflows. The Product Owner is not expected to be a hands-on security expert, but should be able to effectively partner with technical practitioners, understand risks and priorities, and translate operational security needs into well-defined Epics, Features, and User Stories to support team delivery.
