This role sits at the intersection of materials science and advanced engineering, focused on developing innovative coating solutions-particularly for high-performance applications in semiconductor capital equipment. You'll work with cutting-edge technologies like ceramics and suspension plasma spray to engineer surfaces that meet rigorous functional demands.

As a key member of the Engineering Center of Excellence in Boise, ID, you'll:
  • Lead the design and optimization of thermal spray coatings
  • Collaborate across teams-from suppliers to customers-to turn ideas into real-world commercial products
  • Use advanced analytical techniques and Design of Experiments (DOE) to fine-tune processes
  • Apply hands-on skills with equipment and data analysis to solve complex coating challenges

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Integrate principles of materials science and coating physics to advance coating solutions for semiconductor capital equipment.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to capture market requirements and shape coating material roadmaps.
  • Identify emerging application opportunities and develop innovative solutions for complex surface technology challenges.
  • Lead end-to-end product development, from concept design through to commercialization, ensuring performance and reliability targets are met.
  • Resolve coating-related issues by applying scientific analysis and engineering principles.
  • Apply advanced Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies to optimize coating parameters under multivariable conditions.
  • Conduct detailed evaluations of coatings through micrograph analysis and interpretation of analytical performance data.


Qualifications:
  • PhD, Master's, or Bachelor's Degree (with equivalent experience) in Materials Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of thermal spray technologies, particularly ceramics and suspension plasma spray.
  • Strong background in coating characterization and performance analysis.

  • Experience with semiconductor capital equipment is a strong plus.
