This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment, contributing to innovative solutions, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail. You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS).

We are looking for an engineer to be responsible for the development and integration of thermal components across the Blue Moon Crew Lander as a part of the HLS Crew Lander Thermal Systems Engineering Vehicle Team. In this role, you will be responsible for the system design, development, delivery, and deployment of a heat rejection system. This will include but is not limited to leading design, build, integration, testing, and verification efforts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 10+ years of relevant thermal engineering experience
  • Ability to perform trade studies using first principles and engineering fundamentals to make clear recommendations with partial information
  • Strong grasp of heat transfer, and fluid mechanics
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, sizing, building, testing, verifying, and validating aerospace hardware is required
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, define, and manage technical interfaces

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • 12+ years of relevant experience thermal engineering experience
  • Strong understanding spacecraft thermal control hardware and spacecraft thermal systems design specifically active thermal control systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to own and deliver hardware or systems within an integrated engineering team in the aerospace industry
  • Vendor technical management and product delivery experience
  • Experience with technology development or maturation efforts, including leading development testing efforts and managing development risks
  • Experience with heat exchangers and cryogenic fluids
  • Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with other engineers, managers, and program leadership
  • Highly self-motivated with strong organizational and written/oral communication skills – able to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment

Base Pay Range for:

CA applicants is $130,706.00 - $182,987.70 CO applicants is $119,814.00 - $167,738.55 WA applicants is $130,706.00 - $182,987.70
