The
Automation Business Analyst is responsible for supporting the end-to-end Robotic Process Automation (RPA) delivery lifecycle. This includes collaborating with business stakeholders to identify and assess automation opportunities, documenting process requirements, and working closely with RPA developers to ensure accurate solution design and implementation using the UiPath platform.
The Automation Business Analyst plays a key role in addressing common barriers to automation such as reliance on tribal knowledge, unstructured data sources, resistance to change among stakeholders, and underlying technical debt. By proactively identifying and mitigating these obstacles, the analyst ensures that all automation initiatives align with business objectives, provide measurable value, and are executed effectively from initial discovery through to deployment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Process Assessment & Opportunity Identification
- Conduct discovery sessions with stakeholders to identify and assess processes suitable for automation.
- Evaluate process complexity, business impact, and automation feasibility.
- Identify and map automation obstacles, such as tribal knowledge gaps, data inconsistencies, process exceptions, technical limitations, and organizational resistance. Document root causes and define mitigation plans for each.
- Build and maintain an automation opportunity pipeline with prioritization metrics like ROI, time savings, and complexity.
Requirements Gathering & Documentation
- Work with Process Owners and SMEs to gather and document detailed business requirements and systematically capture and digitize tribal knowledge
- Create comprehensive AS-IS and TO-BE process maps and related documentation using tools like Mural, Visio, Signavio, or UiPath Task Capture
- Apply Lean methodology and process mining insights to remove non-value-added steps prior to automation
- Define business rules, decision logic, exception handling scenarios, and dependencies
- Analyze and structure unstructured data sources (e.g., emails, PDFs, legacy forms) to prepare them for automation, while working with data teams to define validation rules and transformation logic
- Support resolution of technical debt and integration challenges
- Develop maintain the Process Design Documents (PDD) and Requirement Traceability Matrices (RTM)
Collaboration with RPA Developers
- Translate business needs into clear, structured technical requirements for the development team
- Participate in solution design discussions and provide input on functional aspects of automation
- Serve as the primary point of contact for business queries during development and testing phases
Testing & Validation
- Define and execute test cases, test scenarios, and user acceptance criteria
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), collect feedback, and ensure solution accuracy and completeness
- Coordinate defect resolution and ensure stakeholder sign-off
Change Management & Training
- Support business users in their creation of user manuals, process documentation, and training materials for end users
- Support change management efforts to facilitate the adoption of automated solutions
- Lead stakeholder engagement and change management efforts by articulating the value of automation, addressing concerns, facilitating training, and developing communications that promote adoption of automated solutions and drive behavioral and cultural shifts
- Communicate status updates, risks, and timelines to all stakeholders effectively
Post-Deployment Support & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor automation performance metrics and KPIs post-deployment
- Collect and analyze feedback to identify improvement or enhancement opportunities
- Establish and maintain an automation exception management framework, documenting triggers, escalation paths, and real-time reporting mechanisms to handle failures efficiently and improve bot resilience
- Maintain all automation artifacts, including Process Design Documents (PDDs), Solution Design Documents (SDDs), exception handling logs, and SOPs, ensuring they reflect real-world execution and lessons learned
- Evaluate emerging intelligent automation technologies (e.g., AI/ML, low-code platforms, intelligent document processing) for applicability in overcoming complex automation obstacles
- Support the scaling of automation initiatives across departments or business units
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: - Four-year degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
- 6-8 years of experience as a Systems and/or Business Analyst, preferably in automation, process improvement, or IT
- Experience with UiPath or other RPA tools is strongly preferred
- Familiarity with business process mapping and documentation standards
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycles (SDLC, Agile, Waterfall)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
- Proven ability to successfully lead and implement business transformation initiatives across multiple functions and manufacturing facilities within a global enterprise. This includes aligning diverse operational teams with strategic corporate objectives
- Must possess a strong track record of engaging and influencing stakeholders at all organizational levels-from executive leadership (C-suite) to functional managers and frontline teams. Capable of setting clear expectations, facilitating alignment, and navigating competing priorities to drive sustainable operational and cultural change
- Experience with BPMN tools and project management platforms (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, Signavio) preferred
- Understanding of Lean Six Sigma principles or business process improvement methodologies preferred
- UiPath certifications (e.g., UiPath RPA Business Analyst Foundation) preferred
