Full Job Description
Job Summary

The Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) is responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of Yunex Traffic software products and intelligent transportation solutions through the planning, development, execution, and documentation of testing activities. This role partners closely with Product Management, Software Development, Systems Engineering, and Project Management teams to verify requirements, develop test strategies, identify defects, and support continuous improvement throughout the product development lifecycle.

The SDET analyzes requirements, develops and executes manual and automated test cases, validates software functionality, participates in design and architecture reviews, and supports the delivery of high-quality products that meet customer and regulatory requirements. The role contributes to product quality standards, development processes, and testing methodologies that support Yunex Traffic's traffic management, mobility, and intelligent transportation systems solutions.

About the work
Our SDETs write the automated tests that let the team ship with confidence, but automation alone isn't enough - manual and exploratory testing still catch what scripts can't, and knowing when to lean on each is part of the job.
Here are some real examples of the work:

Evolve and maintain our Playwright-based TypeScript automation framework, using AI-assisted development practices to improve productivity, quality, and maintainability.
Develop and maintain automated test suites for our microservice-based, cloud-native architecture, using AI to assist with test case design, implementation, refactoring, and maintenance.
Create and maintain automated UI and microservice API test frameworks.
Design, execute, and maintain manual test cases and exploratory testing activities, and identify which of them are good candidates for automation.
Turn test results into automated reports and quality insights that development teams and management stakeholders can act on.
Evolve and maintain our GitLab CI/CD pipelines for automated smoke and regression testing.
Own and continuously improve the QA process so we maintain full coverage as the product grows.

About you
We're looking for a senior candidate with strong, hands-on experience developing automated tests for single-page browser applications - designing UI, end-to-end, integration, and regression tests with Playwright, and building automated API test cases with tools such as Postman or REST-assured. You're comfortable automating test cases in TypeScript, JavaScript, or Python, and you've worked within agile testing practices, including TDD/BDD, with automated tests wired into CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub, GitLab, or Jenkins.
You know how to evaluate test coverage and results, define new test cases to close the gaps, and produce quality reports people actually use. You're well-versed in test strategy, test stages, and standards spanning integration, regression, UI, and component testing.
It's a plus if you've used AI-assisted engineering tools to develop, maintain, review, or improve automated test frameworks and test cases - this role leans on that kind of practice regularly.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, execute, and maintain manual and automated test cases for software products and integrated transportation solutions.
  • Analyze product requirements and specifications to define comprehensive test strategies and test coverage.
  • Verify and validate requirements to ensure completeness, consistency, traceability, and testability.
  • Participate in design reviews and technical discussions to identify quality risks and potential design issues early in the development lifecycle.
  • Perform functional, integration, system, regression, and performance testing activities.
  • Investigate, reproduce, document, and track software defects through resolution.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Software Engineers, Systems Engineers, and Project Managers to improve product quality and release readiness.
  • Support continuous integration and automated testing initiatives.
  • Analyze customer-reported issues and feedback to identify trends and quality improvements.
  • Develop and maintain test documentation, test reports, and quality metrics.
  • Contribute to the improvement of testing methodologies, development processes, and quality assurance standards.
  • Coordinate and track assigned testing activities and deliverables.

Core competencies
  • Test strategy & planning (coverage, acceptance, traceability to requirements; functional & non-functional)
  • Test design & automation (framework selection, performance/security/resilience testing)
  • Defect triage & quality metrics (failure analysis, reliability reporting)
  • Systems integration & build; service acceptance; incident/problem management for operations readiness

KSAs
  • Knowledge: SWEBOK testing/process/quality; SFIA testing/non-functional testing, service acceptance
  • Skills: Design test suites, automate pipelines, instrument/monitor systems, analyze results for continuous improvement
  • Abilities: Analytical rigor, cross-team collaboration (Dev/Ops/Product), communicating risk and residual defects

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of software testing, quality engineering, or software development experience.
  • Experience with test automation frameworks and scripting languages.
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and quality assurance best practices.
  • Experience with defect tracking, requirements management, and test management tools.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with embedded systems, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), traffic management software, or industrial control systems preferred.
