Position DescriptionThe Test Engineer works within the Engineering Department and reporting to Test Supervisor is to perform testing of products manufactured by the Data Center team. This position will be responsible for the test design, setup, execution and reporting. He or she will be working with internal teams & also customers on test requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Apply sound engineering principles to safely achieve and maintain customer-specified test conditions for a wide range of test articles using new and existing test equipment.
- Identify potential safety hazards within the testing environment and collaborate actively with the Environmental, Health, & Safety (EH&S) team to mitigate risks and ensure a safe workspace.
- Develop specialized expertise in laboratory test systems, including temperature, pressure, flow, vibration instrumentation, and data acquisition (DAQ) systems.
- Design and configure test setups; program sensors and DAQ software to ensure accurate, reliable measurement and execution of test plans.
- Execute and repeat test procedures consistently to ensure reproducibility, data integrity, and reliability of long-term test outcomes.
- Troubleshoot test equipment when equipment is unable to achieve desired inputs or outputs.
- Participate in root cause analysis activities and communicate findings to cross-functional teams.
- Build, maintain, modify, and upgrade test equipment to support test needs.
- Provide hands-on technical coaching and testing support to laboratory technicians.
- Research, justify and implement new products and technology in test laboratories.
- With the support of manufacturing engineering and maintenance maintain test equipment for efficient use of utilities (natural gas, water, compressed air & electrical).
- Effectively supports quality document creation and maintenance (Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Nonconformance Corrective Action Reports (NCARs), Work Instructions (WI)...) as related to the test lab.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support laboratory operations and business objectives.
Required Education & Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in engineering, mechatronics, mechanical or electrical.
- Hands on product testing experience and attention to detail is required.
- Familiarity with instrumentation and control wiring is required.
- 3-5 years of experience in test or validation engineering, preferably in HVAC, refrigeration, or industrial equipment production.
- Working knowledge of Control Logix or similar DAQ/PLC programming
- Working knowledge of 3D CAD software is desirable.
- Strong problem-solving and project management skills.
- Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
