Full Job Description

Amentum is seeking an experienced candidate for a Test Engineer - Lead position in Springfield, VA. In this role, you will develop, administer, and supervise a comprehensive test and evaluation (T&E) program, leading a small team that is responsible for testing and evaluating various technical and non-technical capabilities in support of a Department of War (DoW) customer. This position works closely with engineers, developers, and government stakeholders to evaluate new technologies, perform laboratory and field testing, and support the implementation of innovative solutions. You will actively perform and supervise all aspects of Test Concept Development, including understanding the system, understanding the environment, scenario development, measures development, human factors, parallel activities, technical reviews, and post-approval activities. You will also serve as part of a deployable team to both CONUS and OCONUS locations to provide support for short duration operations and exercises, and to support the development, testing, and employment of new capabilities. The ideal candidate possesses excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, both written and verbal, and can manage multiple technical projects in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver detailed Test Plans, Evaluation Plans, Test Schedules, and Test Reports according to DoW standards and guidelines.
  • Supervise daily activities of the T&E team and the development of all work products and contract deliverables. 
  • Lead the planning of and coordination of resources for test events, to include facilities, equipment, field locations/ranges, personnel, and other requirements. 
  • Apply Scientific Test and Analysis Techniques (STAT) to test systems effectively and efficiently for significant statistical results.
  • Identify critical operational issues and develop test objectives to address effectiveness and suitability; determine Measures of Effectiveness and Measures of Performance.
  • Develop, deliver, and maintain a Working-level Integrated Project Team (WIPT) Management Plan and guide the WIPT activities with milestones and decision points for project success.
  • Develop, deliver, and maintain a Capstone Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP) as the overarching Test and Evaluation Strategy for the DoW customer, to include all processes, procedures, and report templates.
  • Develop, deliver, and maintain a Test and Evaluation Strategy (TES) for each assigned project for testing to show operational readiness and suitability with planned test events and project decision points.
  • Provide review and approval of requirements documents, specifications, test plans, and prior test results. Support Technical Exchange Meetings and provide input to project design reviews.  
  • Support the requirements development, traceability, and verification process.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with Government Agencies and commercial entities to enable better test and evaluation of relevant technologies and processes.
  • Develop and supervise a T&E section training plan to attend conferences, seminars, and other professional development opportunities in order to implement the latest industry standards and best practices for related field of work.
  • Be familiar with, recommend, and implement modeling and simulation tools and software to maximize efficient use of resources. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have an Active Top Secret US Government Clearance with SCI eligibility. Note: US Citizenship is required to maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, statistics or related field of study with a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; or eight (8) years of related experience in lieu of a degree and demonstrated ability to apply scientific and engineering principles.
  • Experience in Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E).
  • Leadership and project management experience.
  • Strong analytical skills and highly developed attention to detail.
  • Excellent technical/analytical writing skills.
  • Strong understanding and experience with Microsoft 365 products, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Experience with MATLAB and other statistical and analytical software tools.
  • Must be self-motivated and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Must be able to effectively schedule, prioritize, and organize tasks working both independently and in a structured team environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Eight (8) or more years of related experience.
  • Training, education, and experience meeting Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) Test and Evaluation Level II.
  • Military and operational deployment experience.
  • SERE Level C training or equivalent.
  • Strong experience with MATLAB, Simulink, and related toolboxes.
  • Airborne Sensor Operator experience.

Other Requirements:

  • This is a non-remote, full-time onsite position located in Springfield, VA.
  • This job is performed in office and field environments.
  • Standard work schedule is 40 hours per week/8 hours per day with the occasional need to flex hours based on customer support needs.
  • Some after-hours or short-term shift work may be required to support urgent customer needs, including weekends and holidays.
  • Regular travel is required (up to 30%).
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time working in an office/lab environment, industrial space, or under various environmental conditions while conducting fieldwork.
  • Must be able to lift various sizes of materials and equipment (up to 50lbs).
  • Must be able to deploy for short durations (not to exceed 30 days) worldwide in potentially austere environments in support of operations, exercises, and test events.
  • Must pass requisite physical examinations, comply with applicable theater entry requirements (TERs), and maintain deployability status, to include being able to fly on military and civilian aircraft.

Compensation Details:

$125,000.00 - $155,000.00
