Full Job Description
Job Purpose

The Test Engineer is responsible for planning, developing, executing, and documenting testing activities for advanced power electronics, battery systems, embedded electronics, and electromechanical products throughout the product lifecycle. This position supports product development from prototype validation through Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP), ensuring products meet performance, reliability, quality, and customer requirements prior to deployment. The role works closely with multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing teams to troubleshoot issues, improve product performance, develop test processes, and support successful product qualification and production readiness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Product Testing & Validation
  • Develop, execute, and maintain engineering test plans and procedures for power electronics, battery systems, embedded electronics, and electromechanical products.
  • Perform functional, electrical, environmental, reliability, and system-level testing throughout product development and production.
  • Support verification and validation activities for prototypes, qualification units, and Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) hardware.
  • Execute production acceptance testing and evaluate product performance against specifications and requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve product quality, reliability, repeatability, and manufacturing efficiency.

Product Bring-Up & Troubleshooting
  • Perform initial bring-up and evaluation of new hardware and integrated systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, firmware, software, and system integration issues.
  • Utilize laboratory test equipment to evaluate system performance, diagnose failures, and verify corrective actions.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret test data to support root cause investigations and engineering decision-making.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, firmware, systems, and manufacturing engineers to resolve technical issues and improve overall product performance.

Test Development & Process Improvement
  • Develop engineering test procedures, acceptance test procedures, automated test methods, and manufacturing test processes.
  • Support product qualification testing to applicable military and commercial standards.
  • Continuously improve test methods, equipment, and processes to increase throughput, repeatability, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Assist in the transition of products from development into manufacturing by establishing robust production test processes.

Documentation & Reporting
  • Prepare detailed engineering documentation, including test plans, procedures, qualification reports, acceptance test reports, and failure analysis reports.
  • Maintain traceability between product requirements, test procedures, and verification results.
  • Document test results, observations, corrective actions, and recommendations.
  • Support engineering change activities, customer documentation, and product qualification packages.

Production & Customer Support
  • Support manufacturing and LRIP activities by troubleshooting production issues and improving test processes.
  • Partner with manufacturing engineers to improve yield, reduce test cycle times, and enhance production efficiency.
  • Assist with customer demonstrations, product evaluations, qualification events, and field testing activities.
  • Occasionally travel to customer sites, test facilities, and field exercises to support product integration, validation, and customer acceptance activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product quality, manufacturability, and long-term reliability.
