Full Job Description
ICF is actively recruiting for an experienced Technical Writer to support the research and development of new cyber analytic capabilities that will help the US protect and defend its networks and critical information systems. The successful cleared candidate will act as a Technical Writer to support a large federal cyber security analytic program. Your work will contribute to the knowledge of how cyber-attacks work, how vulnerabilities are exploited, and the way hostile cyber actors operate. We are looking for individuals that want to analyze and understand data to identify anomalies. Utilize your skills to help experiment and prototype future cyber capabilities for implementation at large-scale.

As the Technical Writer, you will work with our customers, subject matter experts, developers, and researchers to describe the evolution, automation, and enhancement of cyber security capabilities in defense of federal agencies. This role is primarily telework-based with occasional meetings at client locations (Arlington, VA or Pensacola, FL) or ICF facilities within the Washington, DC metro area.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Write documents and deliverables for a cybersecurity related organization
  • Work with creatives and cybersecurity experts to draft technical documents and communication deliverables in simplistic language for end users of complex IT systems and projects
  • Editing white papers explaining analytic topics and how different analytics work together
  • Provide professional technical writing and editing services on materials such as informational products, presentations, press releases, reports, etc., while complying with customer organizational style guides and quality control measures
  • Provide authoring standard operating procedures (SOPs), reports, slick sheets, presentations, and other materials as requested
  • Research highly technical information and gather input from cybersecurity team members
  • Coordinate stakeholder input, fact-checking, and integration of written text and graphic design
  • Prepare, design, and publish documents and media that are distributed to a large government, national, and international user-base
  • Support the development of targeted and strategic communications collateral (e.g., Annual Reports, monthly operational newsletters, etc.)


What You Must Have:
  • Bachelor's with 3+ years of experience in English, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field
  • Knowledge of policy, current events, and issues impacting critical infrastructure
  • Excellent writing skills to include the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively
  • 3+ years of experience explaining highly technical data and information
  • Knowledge and experience with a variety of Microsoft Word documents, PowerPoint slides, and graphics
  • Knowledge and experience with collaborative tools (SharePoint, Teams, Jira, Confluence, Wiki, etc.)
  • Experience gathering and converting data into a written narrative
  • Active security clearance required as part of client contract requirement
  • Due to the nature of the work and contract requirements, US citizenship is required


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations. Marketing or a related field.
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various clients in order to explain and elaborate on technical details
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity communications language and subject matter
  • Background in Information Technology and Cybersecurity
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) experience
  • CompTIA Security+ or higher certification level preferred


Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:
$74,090.00 - $125,954.00
