The Work
The Technical Writer responsibilities include writing, rewriting and/or editing technical and programmatic documents, technical procedure manuals, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively.
General activities:
• Writing, rewriting and/or editing documents such as technical reports and technical key proposal artifacts.
• Ensuring documents are written using correct applicable templates, properly formatting text, and ensuring proper use of punctuation and grammar.
• Updating existing templates as required; overseeing the preparation of illustrative materials, and selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts.
• Conducting quality reviews of materials.
• Attending technical and other review boards.
• Interviewing product developers.
• Observing performance of production methods.
• Referencing technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 5 years of applicable experience. 3 years applicable
experience with a Master's degree. 7 years of additional experience may be considered in lieu
of a Bachelor's degree.
• Must have MIL STD 40051 experience.
• Experience with XML, Arbor text and/or SGML.
• Possess the skill and ability to perform complex tasks with minimal supervision.
• Experience with understanding complex engineering drawings, specifications, and system description
documents.
• Experience with facilitating/supporting review boards.
• Effective time management skills and ability to multi-task.
• Experience with creating, editing, and revising moderately complex technical documents, such as:
Operating manuals, user guides, checklists, training materials, installation guides, and
functional specifications.
• Experience proofreading and ensure compliance with program-specific or DoD documentation
standards and formatting requirements.
• Active DOD Security Clearance.
Desired skills
• Ability to stand up a Release Library and experience verifying that changes identified during board reviews are incorporated into documents and the Release Library.
• Possess an understanding of and ability to apply military technical order principles, concepts,
practices, and standards.
• Have existing knowledge of military aircraft technical order editing/writing processes.
• Familiarity with technical manuals and standards specific to Integrated Product Support
(IPS) or other logistics documentation (e.g., Maintenance Work Instructions, Technical
Orders).
• S1000D or other Structured Document specifications.
• Capable of producing clear, concise, and well-organized documentation while adhering to approved style guides and quality control processes.
Work Schedule Information
Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
National Pay Statement
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $69,900 - $123,280. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
Premium Pay Statement
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York is $80,400 - $139,380. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
